I don't know about all you guy's, but I've owned 5 polaris quads, and 2 Honda's and never once have I used the recoil backup. The 700 doesn't have one, and from my experience, I don't think it needs one. Just want to know how often have you used it, or am I just lucky.

Every time...my starter has been hooped since I bought my Scram.

Now what's my back-up if that breaks?

GO to an auto parts store and buy a battery jump pack for small vehicles and carry it with you.............not a problem........... I had a 500 before my 700 and never had to use mine either........

It would be a tough pull on the the recoil rope in cold weather.

my rope works, ive tried it a few times, but damn is it hard to pull, and it barley winds back up unless the motor is already running, i never had to use it, because the startor works perfect and it starts up instantly, maybe 4 seconds in cold weather

I use mine every time I start mine....no problems here!!! I did take my recoil starter apart, and tightened the coil spring, to make the rope retract much better. Mine is kind of hard to pull....due to the 15.5:1 compression!

One way to start the 700 if the electric start failed would be to pull the cvt cover and wrap a pull rope around the drive clutch. Watch the fingers!!!

I have used my recoil. It was not in an emergency though. My battery had went dead while the quad sat in the garage longer then I would have liked it too. I used the recoil to start the machine for that day of riding. By the days end, the battery was charged back up.
As for the 700 not having a backup.....that is too bad. Having a backup is always high on my list. This alone would probably keep me away from it and looking more at the sp500.
