I have about 78 miles on my machine, and today we were riding through, Shallow water with about 8
" of mud. The tires were not spinning and I was just moving right along, all of a sudden there was a pop on the left side and the tire quit spinning. I thought I flipped up a rock. I put it in reverse and started backing out, then the right side popped and the tire quit turning. After i was pulled out of the water hole, the front end would not turn and popped loudly as we moved it. When we got to the shop and pulled the front tires off, both CV joints were broken off. Has anyone ever had this problem before???

whats up wjptcs man I know your pain. I to just purchased a 00 rse 500 sportsman and had the same thing happen but only one cv snapped. Ive did a little modifing to my quad by adding a liftkit wheel spacers, winch, and 27-12-12 vampires all around and I really think that the 12' tires had something to do with my troubles. The thing was is that It broke in only the 2nd hole I got into with the new vamps. Boy was I pissed! I just eased down into the hole went to turn my wheels to the left and All I heard was a loud pop and the front left wheel wouldnt spin at all. IGot it home broke it down and bought a new cv joint at the local polaris dealership the next day. I dont know what the deal is man but I hope It doesnt continue. Keep me informed with anything you find out or how to prevent snapping those expensive$$ suckers!

Well at least i dont feel all alone, I have stock size tires on the front and 12" wide Tri claws in the rear. My buddy was with me when it happened, he was actually driving right beside me on his big bear. Unfortunately he was the only one who rode out the other side of the creek. At least he didn't give me to hard of a time, when he towed me beast back to the shop. These parts better be covered under warranty, because the ground we were on was a flat creek crossing that we cross every day with my truck. There was very little mud and a solid rock bottom, so we were not spinning the tires at all. I will let you know tomorrow how it works out, cause we are hauling it to the dealer in the morning.

Do you remember if were on the gas and the tires suddenly got a bite and loaded the drivetrain, or if you got the drivetrain loaded and then got on the gas?
Thanks

The drivetrain was pulling fairly smooth all the way. I was just accelerating to come up the bank on the other side when it popped. As soon as it popped I let off the throttle and tried to back up.I moved back about a foot when the other side popped. We shut it off and pulled it out from there.

I have seen this phenomenon numerous times in the glades of Florida on lifted and large tired trucks and swamp buggies. When in the mud, if the amount of traction and resistance to tire rotation exceeds the design limits of the drivetrain something has got to give. Normally it will be the cv or universal joint. I have actually seen Toyotas twist their front axles in half.

Keep those u-joints and cv's lubricated and don't over-tire. A little loss of traction and limited wheel spin is a good thing.

Well the verdict is in.. They say no way will we cover it. According to Polaris, if i install thier spring lifts to keep the front from sagging when using thier blade it voids the warranty if I dont remove them each and every time I remove the blade. This bites. The machine is not even 4 weeks old. Any suggestions??

Polaris covered mine. It happened on my left front. Sheared off the whole half shaft! Fully covered by polaris. Thank you, Polaris!

Glenn.
