The 300EX will win because Honda is easier to spell than Polaris. In this way they can hire stupid editors at minimum wage.
ATV Sport is the only magazine that seems to have some level of semi-intelligence. One that really gets me is how Dirt (Honda) wheels & 4WA are always jumping say Grizzlys & Sportsmans etc & talking about how they jump. Those guys are just plain idiots! I can't wait for the snowplow contest between the Banshee & 400EX !!!
damn ****s...

When I was shopping for a big bore last year Dirtwheels had a shootout between the mag 500 and the 600 Grizz. The people at DW chose the Mag. This totally blew me away. I thought, these guys are so biased that if they actually pick a polaris over a Japanese machine this has got to be the toughest, best built, smoothest running and most powerful quad ever to grace a trail. Needless to say I bought one. It has been a flawless performer to date.
I have seen several shootouts in recent years where they would say the Polaris is faster, smoother, has a better 4-wheel drive set up and a greater towing capacity but we pick the Honda. $$$$$$$ have got to play a part in here somehow.
However it looks like Polaris owners are savy enough to know biased reporting when they see it,just look at the polaris sales figures they speak for themselves.

While we are doing the magazine bashing... How about the life and limb threatening photo opportunities that are featured every month? I just love the camera angles that are used to take the pictures. If the hill isn't steep enough, rotate the negative and crop it. Then there are the log hopping photos, good grief what do they do use a crane with invisible wires to suspend the quads? Or how about the unrealistic pictures of winching your quad straigt up a 50 foot cliff.

Some day I would like to see the "out-takes" from the missed opportunities, requiring quad rebuilding and hospitalization.

Also why do all of the photos feature 135 lb riders?

Oh, why is the guy from Honda there all the time during Honda reviews?

He is there to buy, all of the refreshments, dinners, hotel rooms, etc. etc. pick up the airline tickets and whatever else is required for a good review.

Gentlemen, you know why he is there; this is not rocket science.

BTW click on the following link. Polaris sales are up again.

When I was looking to buy a quad, I waited for magazine to do a test of the Xpedition 425. After finally reading the test in 4watv, I bought one as soon as I could. They loved it! However, when doing a shootout against a foreman, they gave the win to the foreman but admitted it was a close call. Their main reason was for Hondas reliability and reputation. Come'on guys, this is a shootout, here and now!

OK guys, lets all dig the magazine out right now and start by reading the whole article and not just what you want. I read the same article between the Prairie and they seemed to make it pretty clear who the winner was. You guys are all just to byass. Start reading and quit whining. Oh and by the way have you even tryed either machine?

P.S. I am a Hnda man and I see why they sometimes lose. Its all about personal pref.

Beast450 proves its not because honda is easier to spell. But, Anyways.

I just get sick of magazines bashing Polaris. Polaris is just as good if not better any some cases than honda. No, their quads haven't been around as long. But, they are doing some great things! The AWD system on the Polaris is 100 times better than honda's!

If Polaris made a pure sport, it would beat the 400EX in every possible way! The 400 and 500 scramblers stock will come close and they are 4x4s!

I've rode with a 300ex and 400ex in the past. I could go everywhere they could and a few times I could go easier and a lot faster.

I don't think the 300 and 400 are junk. They just aren't for me. I know i can roll my TB and ride away on it. With a 300EX the wheels probably won't be pointing the same way! It's worth the extra weight to have a stronger frame.

This is just my opinion. Some might agree, many will not.

Mike Chero: where do you get off saying that Honda doesn't make a fast machine. Ever ride a 400EX, I'm sure you haven't.

I can tell most of you people just skip to the last paragraph of the shootouts and read the winner and then get your impression from there. If you actually read the whole article word for word like me, they tell you the good and bad points of each machine. The Honda 300EX won that shootout, like it has won every sport shootout since it's introduction, because as an overall package it comes out better than the rest. It might not have the most suspension travel or the fastest engine, but it is "average" in those departments and stands above the rest in the other categories. Besides, it makes the most out of it's suspension having a lighweight frame.

Trailblazer '97, how do you come up with that BS about the Honda in a rollover?

If the testers rode 300ex's where we ride then they would never win any shootout. I ride with 3 300's every weekend and I can tell you from personal experience that when it gets a little muddy they do not have the power to climb hills the way a Scrambler, Banshee or Quadracer does. We have some very, very steep hills in my area. Comparing one to a Polaris sport is a joke to me.
If reliability is the deciding factor then I will be the first to admit the Honda's rarely break down, but personally I couldn't have much fun on a quad with that level of power.

rooster,

I meant that it was RARE, not impossible. No, I haven't ridden a 400EX, but I am looking forward to beating one this summer.

Do you really think that this machine is the best that Honda can come up with? Look at their home page and compare the "vaunted 400EX" with their motocross bikes. How about the street sport bikes? Check out the new XR 650. State of the art all the way. What do you get with the 400EX, '70-'80s technology. This is what the magazines (4WA/DW) are drooling over.
