Is there a tried and true method to adding a second battery power supply for accessories such as a winch, back up light, spot light etc. I have a 2000 RSE sp500 that could use more electric power. I have seen posts where people have incorporated the polaris 500 diesel method? If this is the answer, I could use more info. If there is another solution that has worked well for you, please let us know.

Thanks!

I use the diesel setup in my Sportsman and love it. It costs $100.85+tx without the battery and $180.60+tx with the battery. Now this is using all the OEM parts so if need be for a lower cost you could probably cut some corners. I used all OEM parts on mine for a real clean look and for selling purposes at our dealership. I have seen cheaper ways that work just as well.

How long will these parts be available? The diesel was dicontinued right. What parts do you get for $100.85+tx.

The battery will be located directly under the tool box. You can look at the parts manual for the diesel on the Polaris web site to get a better idea. You will get every piece that is used on the diesel setup including the strap, 2 hooks, + cable, - cable, retainer, 4 bolts, 4 washers, 4 nuts, 6 pads, battery box, bottom pad, tool box (not as deep as original so battery will fit), and 2 bolts. Sounds expensive but it makes a nice clean look.

You can also contact Ricky Stator (back of Dirt Wheels or ATV Sport) and have your stator re-wound for around $75 for increased output.

Thanks again guys. uflg95, I went to the dealership but with all of the new snow, they are very busy with sleds and making lots of $$. No time for my little questions. I was wondering, for a quick fix, what size battery, name brand etc did you use for the diesel set up and if I just bought one of those, how do I wire it up? I have a nice custom tool box off my rear rack that I could drop the new battery into and get buy until I can order those expensive OEM parts. Is there a better or bigger battery that I could use instead of the small OEM diesel one. How about just adding another standard battery?

Happy New Year!

Is it possible to install the Sportsman 700 "Big battery" behind the airbox on the 500? And would this be a better and cheaper way to go?

Just asking?
