I will be buying my first ATV before the end of the year, problem is I can not make up my mind which one!

I can EASILY get by with the 400 but am considering the 500 as it seems to be more popular and I am concerned about resale.

I have been looking for 3 months now - saw every brand and am committed to sticking with the Polaris.

What are your thoughts?? Thank you.

I Just got a 2001 left over the day after christmass and i have been riding in very depmud. I Have also been riding over ice, i Think that the 400 is a grat machine it has enought power/acceration/suspention/clearance. I Think that the 400 is a great machin for me but I havent been able to ride the sportsman 500.

Most places are selling the HO way below retail but not moving much on the 400sp. So with that in mind, for about $500 more your getting alot more power and EBS, which that in itself is $400 over the sp400. So I would get the 500HO.

There is not enough money difference not to go with the 500 my friend bought a 400 and wishes he had bought the 500 especially when I purchased my new 500 and he got to ride it.

I rode both and the power between the 400 and 500 is DRASTICALLY better with the HO. Go with the 500.

Thanks for the info guys - helps out a lot - I've been quoted 5800$ on the 400 so $6300 on the 500 should be reasonable??

I paid $6400 for mine but it was in Texas (shipping?). I bet you can get it for $6100 - $6200. Wheel and deal or have them throw in a front rack bag (a VERY handy item).

Man if you can find a 2001 (they have been sold out here since September) buy it and save you some $$$$$. There is no real differece in a 2001 and 2002 (my dad has a 2002).
