Depends on the terrain. My friend has a '00 400EX and I have a '99 Scrambler 500 4x4. The EX is made for running a track and racing. When we get on some trails and the going gets tough, the Scrambler roasts the EX. I love how the Scrambler is sporty yet has four wheel drive and reverse. It is awesome in the mud and in tough terrain. It has the fastest wheel spin I have ever seen in a 4x4.

well i just sold my 2000 scrambler 400 4x4, which as they say had a slight edge over the 500, (barely) on 10/06/01 i drag raced a 400 ex, time and time again, the result-he'd pull out in front off the start and thats where he'd stay about 2 quad lengths ahead of me(this was on gravel road), i sold it to get a raptor because i dont need 4x4 and i just want to keep up, ive ridden both the 500 and the EX and it all comes down to whether or not you want 4x4, or you want to jump, ( trust me my 400 could only take about 6-8 ft. of elevation and it would bottom out every landing, even in the sand), im not bashing i had notta one problem with my scram and i still own a trail boss, the scrambler doesn't do anything the best but what it does do is everything good,
