BTW, does anyone know what shade of green the 700 is being offered in this March?
i heard the other colors are yellow and red.

MT
P.S. also, what's a 'Petty Edition' Sportsman 500 all about?

vegasdude, when you came up with the 0 value, are you sure you weren't measuring your intelligence? I forgot more about quads than you'll ever know and feel safe in assuming that you don't even own one. As for your vocabulary, I'm glad you're making the most of your Hooked on Phonics tapes. I think drivel is a self-descriptive term that you should know a lot about.
p.s. Minute Maid is good, but Welch's is better.

This thread is almost too funny. I can't believe that you guys have this much to argue about. I think alot of guys better get a better idea of what you're talking about on here before you start running your fingers on your keyboard and showing your true intelligence. I can see that some people on here truly know what they are talking about and others seem almost clueless. I won't start pointing fingers. I have ridden many of these contenders but I haven't rode all of them. I personally wouldn't be able to even give a fair opinion on which one I would call ATV of the year.
I could care less what one magazine calls the "ATV of the YEAR". This magazine(ATV News)is a general magazine. Meaning that its focus is on the general public. That would mean its focus should be on the utility 4X4's. If ATV Sport magazine named the SP700 the ATV of the year then I would be a little confused. An ATV Sport magazine may very well name their ATV of the year to Cannondale. This wouldn't surprise me but then again, I could care less. Do you only go out and buy the ATV of the year according to your favorite magazine? If you do, you are alot more trusting in their sometimes useless babble than you should be.
Everyone should go out and buy the quad that best suits them. Test ride all that you can and do some homework and pick the one that best suits you and your needs. Who the hell cares what ATV is voted best of the year by any one magazine.
Just so evryone knows, I myself like the SP700. I am very aware of its weight and my 160lb body can ride it with no more effort than any other atv in its class. I like the sound of the twin cylinder exhaust, I like the way the engine likes to rev, I like the stock tires that come on it, I like the fact that it IS NOT the slowest utility 4X4(more like the second fastest), I like the stiffer suspension for more agressive trail riding, I really like the fact that it is severely de-tuned and capable of alot more performance than it has stock(even thou it is a push rod/two valve engine).
I would feel safe betting that before long more company's will come out with some very serious mods for this thing. Just think, if someone were to sleeve it to its origanal size(around 800cc)with high compression pistons, put on its origanal EFI intake system, with a custom built 8 valve head(which could be done)what would you have then? DEATH! (but man I bet it would be fun until then)
So, go ahead everyone, start aiming at me, A Polaris lover who could care less if was ATV of the year or not. If I wanted a utility 4X4(which I don't) I would choose the SP700. Not because it was ATV of the year but because I like it best.

polaris has put more inovations to the 4 wheel drive quads out there than anyone. today, i ride a quad that has independant suspencion on it due to what polaris has done! do i like the 700, yes! would i buy one, no. i chose a grizzly 660 couse it sueted me the best. i do think any of the top 3 4x4 atv's could have won though, so it doesn't surprise me polaris took it. the fact is any of the top 3 are in ones own choise, and the editors and test riders chose the 700. i give all praise to polaris for what they put together there, as it is a HUGE step up from the 500 sportsman. if it shows itsself to be reliable, then it might even give honda a run next year when they put out a MUCH NEEDED upgrade 4x4 quad. i, think the grizzly rocks though, and would love to go heads up with a 700 in the rough trails i ride all summer long! great job polaris!!!
