Had my blazer tuned yesterday, the mechanic said it was running Quite rich, so he was adjusting the 2 screws on the left hand side of the carb & then said that he made it a bit leaner, also saw him take the needle out of carb & I think adjusted it so that it didnt go down so far or something???.

Just went for a ride this morning, after a 5min warm up I went down the beach, everytime I buttoned off the throttle I heard a click, so I slowed down and went about mid throttle back to the truck, there was a click, click, click noise comming from the cylinder from half to full throttle.
I stopped & put my hand on the head,,,, Daaamn it was sooo hot, It has never run anywhere near this hot, & only was on my Quad under 10 mins??
Please help, Any ideas would be great.......

It is TOO LEAN . Take the top off of the carb and remove the needle . What clip position is it in ?

Do this now , or , you will be buying a piston .

Hi Stinky,
Just saw your post.Thought I'd say hello. Don't run that thing till you find out exactly what the mechanic did. I'm no carb expert, but if you run it that lean the engine could seize from all the heat!!!
I don't know anything about the needle adjustment. That's why I say ask the guy where it was before he moved it.
Didn't mean to butt in Rick. Just don't want Stinky to melt something!!!

Hi RancherDave,

Im stumped to,

Im no mechanic either, so I thought I would get these guys to tune my bike & check that I had wound the secondary clutch correctly. (Saw all the polaris signs all over the shop, scram posters etc,) & thought great, at last someone in my country that services Polaris. Little did I no....
Left my blazer there for the morning, came back & he said I have leaned your carb cause it was running too rich,
Saw he put Scrambler on the job sheet....I thought mmmm..
Then he tried to tell me you dont need to wind the helix cause my bikes got EBS...mmmm somethings not right here...
So I swiftly put my quad back on the truck and left as fast as I could.
Just pi$$ed off I didnt get back before he tuned (well F##### my carb).
100% True Story...

Now im left to pick up the pieces alone,
But thanks to my computer, Rick & all you guys in this forum it shouldn't be too long till im back blazin...

Well, depending how lean it is, move that clip down on the needle. I would go two spots down to be safe. But I am not an expert on this...just an average tinkerer.

I think I would change the needle position exactly as Lurch says .

After doing this tell us how it runs , we can always lean out a bit after we know it is too rich .

I remember you had someone machine your head . Did the bike ever operate correctly after this was done ?

BTW , It was only $7.00 to send your spring.

Just put needle back in & tested...
On reving from 1/4 to 3/4 rev slight white smoke coming out the exhaust,
Slight miss at just over half rev,

Head still seems to be quite hot, but I dont thik it was as hot as yesterday.

Only other thing when I got the quad, it had a NGK Br9es plug in it.
when I replaced plug before putting back together I put standerd plug back in.(NGK Br8es)
Do you think I should revert back to the hotter plug????

After more testing I discovered once my bike gets warmed up, from 1/8 to 1/4 throttle I can haer a strange noise comming from the cylinder I think, like a crack, crack, crack kinda noise.
Once it gets past the 1/4 throttle it seems O.K.
The rest of the rev range seems O.K, but overall engine seems alot noiser than ever.
Maybee run too lean just that bit too long.
PISTON Toast?????????
What do you guys think??
