I copied this from another forum.

This was a very thought out competition between all the big-guns available.
The kawi, bomb, 660, 700, Vinson, AC500i and the Ruby. The shoot-out
consisted of a dyno, sled pulls, trail power, sand bag shoot-out(racks loaded),
handling, brakes/tires and GC all in one.
First off the Kawi dominated the mags artical winning most off performance
section but didn't win, whinch I thought was weird.
DYNO
Kawi-31.4
Bomb-30.5
700-30.2
660-29.8
Viny-21.8
500i14.2
The Rubicon couldn't be Dyno'd on the olny rearwheel dyno.
ACCELERATION
0-20
Kawi-1.64
700-1.72
Bomb-1.78
660-1.78
Viny-1.86
Ruby-1.97
500i-2.35
20-40
Bomb-3.10
Kawi-3.18
660-3.28
700-3.66
Viny-4.09
Ruby-5.40
500i-9.19
0-40
Kawi-4.82
Bomb-4.88
660-5.05
700-5.38
Viny-5.95
Ruby-7.36
500i-11.55
SLED
Bomb-171.6 Avg-127.2
Kawi-156.6 Avg-116.1
700-156 Avg-129.7
660-152.6 Avg-120.2
Viny-138 Avg-99.2
500i-125 Avg-90
Ruby-124 Avg-75.3
TRAIL POWER
Kawi
660
Bomb
700
Viny
Ruby 500i
SANDBAG SHOOT-OUT
500i
700
660
Ruby
Viny
Quest
Kawi
The editors didn't like the front springs in the struts of the Kawi in the this
shhot-out, they sadi when loaded the thing sagged quit a bit.
HANDLING
I can't tell who won this, they mentioned the praire being the best sprot bike
but then mention the real champ is the Viny, but then at the end of the artical
they say in fact our testers chose the 700 as the overall handling favorite, the
ac beat it out but only in the roughest trail conditions.
ENGINE BRAKE
Ruby
Bomb
700
660
They mention after all these that Viny, Kawi and AC have to improve there
engine brakes.
GROUND CLEARANCE
500I
700
660
Viny
Ruby, Kawi and Bomb all tied on the eight inch rock, where the 700 and the
660 all scraped the 10 inch rock where the 500i just drove over it with an inch
to spare, all of the test was done with a 200lb rider.
OVERALL
700
BOMB
660
Kawi
Viny
Ruby
500i
This I couldn't believe because the Kawi again dominated the performance
categories but lost because of bad engine brake or what. I was ver interested
in how the Bomb did and the Vinson for a 500 cc machine wasn't all that far
behind the big-boys.

Greg,

Thanks for the info. Any other interesting info in that article? I am still in anticipation to see who won the mud shootout over at FWP.

Later,

Waylan

You will not be surprised by the results, but it should still be interesting.

What "bomb" did they test? The DS/Baja 650? I don't know all their products except the DS/Baja.

Thanks Chunky

PS What category does the Scrambler 400 fit into? I am sure I can toast the Kaw.
