I have some rod knock on my sport and was wondering if anybody has the bearing and seal numbers for a complete rebuild. It has been like this for a couple of years and has not gotten worse. The mechanic I trust very much said ride it and not worry that he has seen the 400 motor go a long time with rod knock. He said overreve is the main culprit when rod knock starts and since we have the auto tranny there will be no overreve. Does anybody else have this problem? If so can somebody tell me what a good rebuld cost. I will pull the motor and supply all bearings.

All he says is true except one small info. If and when the rod does go all at once, you'll buy some cases, head, and a few other little items.

If it just gradually gets worse then you can choose when to repair. If it spins out and the rod spears thru the case into the tranny and the piston tries to jump thru the head, you'll spend more.

Your mileage may vary....

It is much more common to see knocking coming from the counterbalancer
or a loose piston .

Your best bet would be to park it and get it checked out .

that knocking sound is coming from the counter balance or either the piston slapping the cylinder wall. I had the same problem on my 97 sport. the local tech at the polaris shop suggested the to run a 80 or 90 wieght castroil synthetic oil. I did and it quieted right down.
