Blazer250,

18" wheels? Or do you mean the 17" wheels. It would seem to me that it would be cheaper to buy a whole new truck when the tires wear out, than have to replace 18" tires.

Just the cost of going from a 15" tire to a 16" tire is enough to keep me from getting larger wheels on my truck. I can't imagine how much 18" tires would cost.

Policeman3210,

The real rating of a truck's engine is how much torque it produces, not the horsepower. For example some semis "only" have horsepower ratings of around 400-500+ hp. The torque rating on those motors is through the roof, somewhere around 2000 ft lbs of torque. I'm sure the 4.7L motor is a good one and does produce only 5 less horsepower than the 360 (5.9L) motor. But how much torque does it produce? Probably a lot less.

I understand the torque and everything, the 360 produces a lot of torque for it's size, I will find the torque rating for the 4.7.
They also have 20" wheels available, mine came with the 17", although I'm gettin the 20's. The bedliner and cd player go in Tuesday, whatelse should I do to the truck, just curious as to what you guys think.

Oh, just found the site, says that it produces comparable horsepower and torque compared to the 318 it replaced.

i bought a 2001 dodge ram 1500 just in time to avoid the new 2002. i just dont like the look of the new ones, as well as the fact they seem to cator more twards the road ride instead of the offroad ride. i may be mistaken on this, so dont anyone go off the deepend on the last remark, o.k.? i think a truck should not have front independant suspencion soley due to its weight. when i go offroading in mine, i just feel better knowing the front axle is solid, and not diving down at every bump. i have the 360, and pull a 7000 lb camper with it. it has been flawless just like my 98 ram i sold for the new one. the 360 is just soooo much better for pulling power than the 318 i had before. i am sure when it is time to go to a new one, i will again buy another dodge, for i have NEVER had a problem with them. i have a trailer hooked up to mine about 60% of the time, and never have i had a tranny problem, and i have had this truck off the ground numerous times while on the trails.
congratz on the new truck, and keep us posted on how it breaks in and the fun factor of such a truck.

I don't care for the new styling myself. Just something about it doesn't look right, kind of awkward looking. Doesn't make sense to me why everyone always has to have the latest styling, seems like such a waste of money.

Congrats on your new purchase! I went to the Dodge dealer the other day to pick up parts and was looking at the 2002s. I don't care for the new styling either. We have a 97 1500 4x4 with the 360. And it's blue, my favorite color We bought the truck used in July of '01. The first problem we had was about a month or so ago, we ended up with a leak in the fuel rail (not common). I will say that Chrysler has a STUPID design on the fuel rail caps! You can't replace them in any way if they leak...so it was off to the dealer to buy a new one. We found out it's been re-designed 11 times. Through all of this re-designing, they went with a different hookup for the fuel line (of course). All in all, it cost us $433 for the rail, the line, injector clips and a screw for the line. We bought the o-rings at Napa and save, oh, around $85. LOL Anyhow, our Dodge runs like a raped ape, and rides like heaven! We've agreed that we'll never buy anything other than a Ram (unless their designing gets worse). I can't express how happy we are with our 97!

By the way, for anyone else that has a 97 1500...there's a recall on the secondary hood latch...call your dealer

Very usefull information guys.I am also looking at 2002 Ram 1500 Quad cab.I test drove 2WD and 4wd,I did not like 4 wd ride, 2wd rides better./ that pis$#% me off ,since they were going to sell me fully loaded 4WD for a price of 2WD/ $23999/.They have 7years/100000 miles power train warranty/.Maybe it is just me, not having any big truck ride experience./I currently have 2001 Explorer Sport and I hate it./I want to trade it in for the RAM./
Polarisman,do you think 4,7 L/269lb would be OK to haul 3000lb?/hills?/.
Dodge Ram Quad cab is certainly a lots of truck for 24000 dollars. It looks like I am going back monday for another test drive. Since you guys like the ride......hm, will see.
Thank you for your help.

Colt77,
Check out the link in the post above to get all the info you could ever want on Dodge Trucks ( Rams, Dakotas & Durangos ).
3,000 lbs in a trailer should be a piece of cake even with the 4.7L. Depending on the hills, you may have to drop down a gear to make the grades. Also, if you're planning on towing quite a bit, look at a lower gear ratio ( 3.92 vs 3.55 ), and trans coolers are a must !

CaptNemo,
I checked the link,I did not find anything usefull at this time.
I think new 1500 quad cab 2x4 has a trans. cooler./4x4 does/.How big of a deal is to change the gear ratio?? the trans has to come out, doesn't it.I do not know much about trucks and I never worked on them.Thank you for your help.

The transmition does not have to come out, although the rear end does. The axles have to be removed, and then open up the rear end, and I am not sure how much more involved it gets after that.
But the 4.7 should have plenty of power for what you are asking, burnouts are fun in the truck, and power breaking is very easy.
