my son wants a new used 4 wheeler, my question is about a scrambler the stock 400 and 500 are equal in speed or very close my question is this how do they compare in speed to aa wolerine warrier rancher 300ex and 400 ex also the kaws, also he is interested in how they do in the mud can they go thru a lot of mud in comparison to say a rancher or big bear? all of his friends ride 300ex and 400 exs and rancher and the rest mentioned above he would like to have the best of both worlds is this the 4 wheeler for him we hunt 60% of the time and joy ride 40% so he needs both he is 5'7" and 14 yrs old

I have a '99 Scrambler 500 4x4. The best part about this machine is the sport / utility combo. It goes faster than I need to go, pulls wheelies, can pull a trailer, and with the flick of a switch it muds like no other sport machine. I don't miss not having a low gear and it actually makes it more fun to drive. You don't ever have to worry about if you need to be in low or not. I wasn't sure how good it would pull but after dragging a Honda 4x4 out of a big mud hole, I didn't doubt its pulling power again.
The Scrambler is an awesome mud machine because of its hellishly fast wheel spin. The true four wheel drive and high output 500 rips up anything in its way.
My Honda friend with a 400ex used to always brag on how fast his machine was over my Polaris. We rode at a State Park a few weeks ago with lots of technical trails, muddy hills, and other tough obsticals. After my Scrambler tore him a new one, I never heard another word about top speed.
