first service

My dealer has told me that it is a good idea to have them service my sp500 between the first 400 to 500 miles. They say that they will go through the machine and check everything over, ie..tighten handle bars, top off fluids, align wheels, etc.. I'm wondering if this is a necessary expense($200), or are they trying to sell me a service i dont need. Any thoughts would be great

200 dollars sounds a little high!?!, When you bought your polaris, didn't propolaris send you a magazine with a discount coupon in it. I got one from them and I got one from my dealer for purchasing an atv from them.
Its a good idea to bring it in. It helps for future warranty situations. You need to get the oil and tranny fluid drained and filled to get rid
of those metal shavings from a new engine. In my area, they only charge about 75 to 125, at different polaris dealerships. Then when my warranty ran out, I do more on my own.
rangerchet polaris expedition 425 cc 5 speed.

tmbwn, Me personally I wouldn't pay them $200 bucks for anything. Just get your owners manual out. It tells you all fluid requirements and locations for the machine. Just take your time and read carefully and you will do fine.
PS: Wash machine good before starting.

Just like alot of the things the dealerships do is a rip off.200 dollars is extremly high for your first service.I can personally service my entire 500cc Sportsman in under an hour.It includes,Lube, oil, filter, air filter service, front gear lube change, rear tranny fluid change, air tires, tighten loose nuts/bolts,check lights, and recheck all fluid levels including the radiator. The owners manuel tells what you need to service.Good Luck,====BILL
