You mean to tell me if I read right that I can pick one up in canada for roughly $5400 I wonder if there would be any kind of border tax on that...

Not sure about taxes when you cross the border. Alot of guys bought trucks in Canada when the exchange was even better, and I know they had to modify the speedo for US regs. Maybe you could contact the US border and find out what you would expect bringing the quad into the states. I know that with exchange, it was about 5400.00 US, and that is a really good price. Being a US made machine may imply some reduced tariffs.

What about the VAT? I'm not from Canada, or even close to it, but I thought there was a very high "sales tax" (US equiv.). If you must pay this tax, even if you're a US citizen, that could offset any savings you otherwise might encounter. Let's not forget the old freight and setup fees either.

My dealer charges nothing for freight and setup, but every dealer that "beat" his price did. These extra charges increased the out-the-door price (the only meaningful number) enough to make this "lower" price cost me more.

What do you mean a waste of 6200 bucks? I've learned now that you really have to shop around, and go in armed with facts and figures, and make the dealer want your business. Reminds me of the last time I went truck shopping between Chevy, Dodge and Ford. Took 2 weeks of going dealer to dealer, but I stuck to my offer and the persistance paid off. You can make a difference in what your willing to pay, Its up to you when to give up.

Rancheres is just trying to tell you that buying a
polaris atv is a waste of your money. He and I have met on a couple of other polaris topics, posting back and forth. He owns a honda rancher.

I have seen 1 yellow sp500 that is or was on display at my dealer. I thought it looked nice. Last summer, I met a sp500 owner up north on a fishing trip. He told me that he liked his sp500 and when he saw my tamarrack utility box, he liked
that and thought he might buy one. Personally, yellow is not my color but I will say, that when you see it, it sure gets your attention.

rangerchet, polaris expedition 425 cc 5 speed.

I would have to guess that somehow one or both Governments would somehow make it difficult for US citizens to buy their toys north of the border.

On the other hand, SWAC is right on the truck buying issue. Heard of that one here in Ottawa also. At least with the US built ATV there would be no emmissions or speedo issues.

rancheres - the comment puts me in mind of comments from the infamous Stocker - meaningless and only entertaining to the person who wrote it. Look where it got Stocker!

tmbwn - it certainly is day-glow, you got that right! Don't discount it though. Remember the old Sea-Doo ad "who you call'in yella ...". The XP walked all over everyone that year in the races!

SWAC, to be honest I didn't shop around. The dealer was recommended by a good friend. I did go in with a figure in mind. I knew the taxes were going to be ugly. I told him 9K, with these few extras, take it or leave it. He whined and complained but he did it. Now he calls me el-cheapo every time I bring up something about the machine. Really curious how much the dealer makes per machine. Does anybody know?

I really have no idea what the percentage of profit is on The Polaris products. Lets just assume there was a 25% profit margin, that would mean a possible profit of 1750.00 on full retail of 6999.00. Also, at a 30% profit margin, the profit possibility of 2100.00 is there. So the dealer has room to play. Depending on how concerned he is with his profit and loss statement at years end, and how friendly he is and wanting your business is the degree to what he is willing to let the machine go at. Bottom line is, his best new customers are his satisfied old customers, with price paid and follow-up service. I personally would not want to deal with an owner such as myself, I've been known to get a little loud and rowdy come service time. Not very happy with the "deal" I got either after reading what Deej paid for his. Oh well, live and learn.
