are they reliable??

Hey BuffaloSoldier, I agree with Muddy, I bought my first quad about 6 months ago, a used Grizzly. I did alot of research on many different brands (probably about 30 hours worth) rode some different brands and was looking for the most reliable machine at a reasonable price. I ended up with the 600 Grizzly, was bigger than what I wanted, but the price was sweet. Back to the subject now, throughout my research, I quickly discovered that Polaris is by far the most troublesome machine of the ones I researched (Kawasaki, Yamaha, Honda, Arctic Cat and Polaris). My uncle has 2 of them, and have a friend with one also. We get ready to go riding, and half the time somebody has to stay home, because something is broke on their damn machines. My uncle had to replace the chain on both machines within 7 months. It is a frequent thing that we will be out riding and have to head back because one of their pieces of crap starts clunking and banging when we are out riding. They have to grease the machines everytime they ride them, there are only about a dozen grease fittings on the machines!!!! I guess it's no big deal to have to do this, but why would you want to when you can buy another brand that doesn't require it. Have to oil the chain everytrip, and god forbid you go through water, that is a sure fire way to have to head home. Is to the point now where both my uncle and his sons and the friend are so paranoid about noises in the darn things that they afraid to keep riding if they get clunking. I never did settle on a specific brand when I was looking, but I did rule out Polaris real quick. The others seem to be pretty decent. Although I researched a lot of problems with Arctic Cat too. Just my .02.

I guess I live in a fantasy world....but I have owned 2 Polaris' and have had no trouble. I ride what I think to be pretty hard. No dirt roads....no cow pastures....no puddles......we ride mountians...make your own trails.....water up to the seat... going over logs.....driving over 2" sapplings. There are Yamaha's and Honda's that I ride with and we ALL have our little troubles.....but Polaris (in my opinion) are built stronger and tougher. YES they require maitenance...but look at any piece of HD equipement and you will find that they require main.(Zerks).

I dunno where the fairytale about headin in water then having to head home came from, but I ride in mud and deep water alot, and you won't be hearing a long list of problems from me. I only had two problems that made me miss a day of ridin, an inner hub seal, and a seal in the rear caliper. Nothng major. I never had anything fail on me while I was on the trail.
