oil in airbox!!
#1
I have a 2001 Trail Boss. The other day I checked the air filter and discovered some oil in the bottom of the airbox. I have changed the air filter atleast 3 times since I had it. I rode alot in the dry summer months and the dust was terrible. The last time I changed the air filter there was a small amount of oil residue in the airbox but this time there was oil actually laying in the bottom. Any info. would be appreciated.
Thanks
Jeff

The oil could be from over oiling the filter, and it running off into the air box, but it's probably not. The most likely reason is that your crankcase overflow is hooked up to your airbox, so if it is rolled, or over filled with oil, the oil will come up through the crankcase overflow into the airbox.

I had the same problem with my wifes 01 Trailboss. But it was also using alot of oil. After finally convicing my dealer that it was using oil he then took it and found that the cylinder was egged and that a exhaust valve seat was installed incorretly and oil was passing by the valve seat. I don't know exactly why this always created oil in the airbox. But after he repaired everything it never happened again. It might not be the same thing but it sure is awfully coincidental.
