I have had to tighten the chain twice in the last couple hundred (if that) miles. Last time was 3 weeks ago and it appears looser already. What is going on? Is this chain on it's way out? Also, I am getting a slapping noise while riding, can't place it but I think it could be the plastic chainguard piece. Or the loose chain itself, but it did that before and this sounds somewhat different. If anyone has any input, I appreciate it.

ps I found out yesterday that Warn winches work upside down, roller fairleads are very nice to have, and my right leg will support all the weight of a rolled over Sportsman 700 without breaking. I think it bent some, though.

If it's a stock chain on a 98, it's probably ready for a new one. The slapping noise you hear could be your belt slapping against the clutch housing. I would go with a DID Gold X ring chain, and a new HPD belt.

check your chain for missing rollers. i had to replace 2 chains on mine, also if any rollers are missing your front sprocket probably has broken teeth!
