Hello,

I'm relatively new to the atv scene, but I'll give you what I think. I bought a 2002 Scrambler 400x 4x4 back in December. I think it has plenty of power, spunk, and traction all with great trail riding abilities. My son really loves it, so I bought myself a 2002 Scrambler 500 4x4. I haven't ridden it yet, since I picked it up yesterday. I've heard that it has all the power of the 400x, but not quite the spunk. I've yet to judge that, but I think you couldn't go wrong with either one. Hope this helps.

I very much have to disagree with that. I have a 99 Scrambler 500 4x4 and my friend just bought a 2002 Scrambler 4x4 400. I beat him almost every time we raced(straight run...hard ground..about 1000ft). I beat him by about 2 fourwheeler lengths and my bike has been rode hard...trust me..lol. My 500 has more power hands down to his 400. It does seem that his is a little more spunky at times, but my 500 just has the power and tourqe his doesn't. Price isn't that big of a difference though. 500 engine lasts longer but more expensive to fix and upgrade. 400 cheaper to trick out, pipe, reeds etc....it's your call..either way they are very close.

Bansheeman351: WOW! Fort Plain??? I'm originally from Fonda -Fultonville.
Parents worked at Lifesavers and Beech-Nut. Anyways; I own both of these machines and I prefer the 500 for torque and trail riding. The 400 has been bullet proof as well and is a great machine if you plan on mods. The 500 is faster and gets the holeshot every time if traction is good. The 500 is much heavier than the 400. Both machines are a pure blast to ride. They are NOT motocross quads though. The Scrambler is by far my favorite Polaris machine. Nice to see you here!

Well Scram Slam,

I took my new 500 out today for the first time. I really like the ride. I say, that for my machine, I think the 400x has more punch than the 500. I think the throttle response is different for each machine. I feel the 400 gets the power to the wheels quicker, if that makes any sense. When I was climbing hills today, I noticed a big difference. I'm not saying the 400 will beat a 500 in a race, but the 400 is quicker. At least for me.
