Woke up my Scrambler 500 4x2!!
#1
After a year of running this thing totally stock I realized that I was getting way to comfortable with the available power. So it was time to regain the excitement. It took awhile to consider options and make the (for me) right choices. I didn't want it too wild but with enough to make a real difference.
Here's what I did:
1. installed K&N filter
1a. rejetted carb
2. installed complete Supertrapp IDS2 exhaust
3. changed rear sprocket to 40 teeth
4. set secondary clutch spring to the 2&1 position
5. Fox front struts
For now that was all. But, let me tell ya this made a HUUUGE difference. No BS, this thing nearly will wheely at will now. It has a really strong pull on low end and in mid range. And, WOW due those Fox struts really soak up the bumps. Was going to take it up to the Oregon dunes this weekend, however, looks as though there will be just to much rain to have any real fun in the sand, so I'm headed for the hills instead. We'll see how she performs there. We rescheduled our trip to the dunes for the end of the month. Hopefully more cooperative weather.
Future mods this summer will include 600 cc kit, Works rear shock and I think the HPD roller clutch setup in the secondary.
Finally found a way to put a smile on my face before the weekend!!!

Very nice. I like the feedback on the Fox shocks.
Question, what is "Setting the rear clutch to the 2:1 position?"
I've only had my scrambler 6 weeks and it's already got the K&N, green spring and FMF muffler.
I installed the muffler tonight. Sounds good and I can't wait to ride.
Next I'm thiniing of the shocks and ITP wheels with holeshots.
How hard was the jetting?

BarelyLegal:
The setting on the secondary spring is set at the factory. It is adjustable. You remove the secondary clutch, depress the helix(while someone holds the sheaves) and remove the snap ring. Then let the helix "relax" and unwind the preload on the internal spring. Keep track of the original settings that you have, probably 2,2 (these numbers are on the helix and the sheave. Once removed you can then reset to the stting you desire, if you want a little quicker backshift and a little longer in the low end allowing for quicker acceleration, put a little more wind in the spring by leaving the helix at no.2 position and repositioning the inner sheave to no.1 position. Then as you reassemble you have preload the spring by first lining up the guide spline on the helix and the spline shaft, then twisting the inner sheave one quarter turn and pushing the helix down on the splines and reinstalling snap ring.
