Scarmbler 400 vs. 300 ex or 400ex
#2
I have a 00' scrambler 400 4x4 and one of my good riding buddies has a 00' 400ex. Right now both machines are stock.
To make a long story short:
In a drag, I get him for about 10 yards out of the hole due to 4x4 but he gets me from there.
The scrambler wins no contest in the snow and mud.
75% of the time, the scrambler will get the 400ex in hill climbs.
The 400ex wins no contest in jumping.
I love my polaris, but I bought it b/c it was what I wanted and what suited me best. I was in the same jam. I wanted the 400ex but went against my instincts and got the 400L, and havent looked back. I love my machine. I doubt you could go wrong with either. A world of aftermarket upgrades are available for each model. 2-stroke or 4-stroke; whats our preferance? The decision is all yours, we can just merely tell you how the quads stack up against each other.
Hope this helps,
-Erin

I am definately not a big Honda fan especially after seeing that retarded 300ex reverse setup. If i was in the same position i would have chose the Scrambler 400 for $1000 less and put that money towards a 60 HP kit and a rearview mirror so you don't loose sight of the 400ex.

Since I have a Scrambler 400 and a 400EX I can shed some light. I also ride with 2 250R's 3 Banshees, 3 300EX's and 2 400EX's.
The Scrambler is great in it's element. Mud and snow. I had my Scrambler on the frozen lakes here in Ontario. It is an awesome machine. It left all the Foreman's and Ranchers in the dust. That true 4 wheel drive cooks! It also helps when you have 500 studs in the tires....
Any kind of Mud and Snow, the Scrambler will leave the others behind.
However, on trails and summer riding (not deep mud), the 400EX will smoke the other two. The Scrambler is heavy and feels tippy as you ride higher. It doesn't handle fast bumps and the automatic causes hesitation when trying to lift the front to skip a hole.
The 300EX is a great woods machine with a great price tag. Great little machine. Smooth, great jumper, reliable. Good play bike for woods trails. Quiet too.
When it comes to wheelies, jumps, and fast trail times, the 400EX is my machine of choice. (Also with the crowd I ride with, you need to ride one to keep up....)
For Mud and Snow, and the ability to have a friend ride with me, the Scrambler excels. (A new rider can ride it pretty easily). I guess that is why I have both.

I am sorry to say but you're wrong.
There's a big difference on the front shocks too.
Just take a good look at a Scrambler and a Trailblazer and you will see that the Scrambler shocks are much bigger and stronger both on the back and front. You should have known that if your father has a Trailblazer. Try not to say that kind of things.
Have a great weekend
