Some sales people are telling me that 98, 99, & 2000 Sportsman 500s have differences between the EBS systems. When I looked at the Polaris WEB site I saw no differences mentioned. Does anyone out there know if there are differences, and if so what they are? Also does anyone know what the other differences between these model years are.

Ask FloodRunner he has owned all the models you speak of. I can say this the 98 1/2 model is pretty fast but you must use low range at any speed below 10 mph to keep the belt from getting too hot. My Uncles 98 1/2 belt exploded going down a fire road trail with only 1,250 miles on it. He did not use low range enough when going through the woods and the belt was worn out at 1,200 miles.

My dads 95 Sportsman has 3,500+ miles on the original belt because he uses Low range all the time when putting through the woods. The newer sportsmans are not as fast as the 97 models. I think EBS has a lot to to with the lower speeds, and excessive high belt temperature. Good luck.

Thats a good question. I don't know about the sportsman but when I bougth my 99 magnum 500 they had the 2000 models available but the salesmen told me I should get the 99 model because they were not offering the EBS on the 2000 mags as a standard feature. I dont know if this is the truth or if they are just trying to get rid of old stock.

It is true. 2000 models do not have EBS. My uncle sold his Sportsman and just purchased a left over 99 Magnum 500 with EBS for 5,150 dollars.

Why Polaris did this I don't know.

Odin,

I hate to dispute you on this one, but I just bought a 2000 Sportsman 500 and it DOES in fact have the EBS on it. It does not have the EBS STICKER, but it does have the feature. Production date on mine was 11/30/99, owners manual and title both state 2000 model year.

The question was for the Magnum model not Sportsnan read the prior post again. 2000 Magnums do not have EBS as a standard feature 99's do.

So far there have been 3 years of production and six different model variations of the Magnum 500.

The latest versions have EBS and a host of other features. Go to the Polaris Web Site and read the parts manuals. There is a wealth of information in there.

It also says the Scrambler 500 2wd is a two stroke. Some Magnums have the EBS. Just so you dont have to special order them. I also saw a sp500 with mudrunners strait from the factory.
