I tore the front boot on my 700 this weekend, so I went and purchased a new boot. I never replaced one of these before and I was wondering how hard it was to put on. I took the clamps off that held the old one on and just cut what was left of the old boot off. The problem now is that I don't quite know how to go about getting the new one on. What do I have to take apart to get it on and how do I go about doing it. I also ordered the service manual from the dealer today b/c I figured that it would help with this and future problems. But it will take a few days for it to get here and I need the machine before that. So if anyone has done this before and could take the time to help a fellow ATVer out it would be greatly appreciated.

I think you need to drop the a-arm from the balljoint, and pull the axle out of the hub. That's basically how to do it, but not very good directions. I'm about to do this tomorrow morning on my own quad, so I'll post directions here if someone doesn't beat me to it.

It's a bit of a pain but no biggie.
Do a search on cv boots and you'll get a dozen replies.
A good pair of 8-10" needlenoise pliers is a life saver with the clamps

First time I did it took me 6-7hrs,now it's down to 1 1/2hrs.
Dealers around here want $160 to change it and $25 for the boot. And if you got mud in there I'm willing to bet they wouldent clean it out.

Where abouts at the jersey shore?

Thanks for the additional info 500DUSE.
Actually, Jersey Shore is a small town located in central Pennsylvania. It is about 15 minutes from Williamsport, which is where the little league world series is held. I don't know if this info helps or not.

The hardest part was figureing out how to get the shaft out.
If you feel aroundthe bearing you'll find a part that feel like it's broken(it's concave)thats where the snapring is that holds it on.Just spread that apart and the shaft slides off.Takes some fiddleing but you'll get it.
If I remember right, the front is eaiser then the back.?

I just had a rear boot replaced on my sp700. The total cost was 35.00 and change. I waited while the mechanic replaced it and he was done in about 35 minutes. The boot was 9.00 and the rest was labor. I ordered both the front and rear guards that protect the underside of the boots. They are in the polaris catalog, come in different colors and cost 49.99 a pair. The dealer says that they attach to the frame and they are the same ones that fit the 500h.0. A little steep for the guards but if it happened once, it can happen again.

500DUSE,
I don't know if the 500 is different from the 700, but me and my brother monkeyed around with it for 45 minutes and couldn't find any kind of snapring that you described. We wiped as much of the grease off as we could and still couldn't find anything in, on, or around the bearings. Any further information would be appreciated by you or from anyone else. Thanks again.
