Need a little help guys,,,a buddy and me went riding yesterday and not too far into the ride I slowed down to go around a corner and my buddy was behind me and did not know that I had slowed down,,he tried to miss me but got me in the right rear tire and his bumper got into my silencer and pushed it up into my plastic cracking the #### out of it and really messed the end of my pipe up (were the silencer slides on)and it knocked the pipe off of the header pipe,,so the bike was still running for a short time after the pipe came off,,soo my ? is,,,could that have hurt the motor in any way by the pipe not being on ?????
Also I think I might be able to straighten the pipe and put the silencer back on but will this hurt the performance ????(the pipe itself does not look hurt, only the end of it that the silencer slides onto). Thanks 4 any help..

Running a motor without a pipe/silencer on it isn't good for 4 cycle engines (hard on valves), but there shouldn't be any damage done in a short time. As far as 2 cycle engines, if you run it for an extended period of time, the lack of backpressure can make it run lean, and overheat the combustion chamber. Again, no damage if run for just a little while. I would say you should be fine.

Thanks Farmer,,I took my bike down to my dealer tonight to let him take a look at it and it's got a LOT more damage tham I thought,,he noticed that the frame is bent down in the rear pretty good,,and my new wheel is also bent,,guess I took a little harder hit than I thought..
Well I guess it's a good thing that my buds insurance is going to take care of it,,,,but that sure does suck,,,,,,maybe my wife will let me borrow her new bike to go ride this weekend,,maybe brake that thing in right LOL..
