Hi, I am new to the forum and I am looking to buy a Scrambler. I have been researching and it looks like the 500 4x4 would be the best for me. I am 6'2/ 215, I would mostly be riding on mild trails and little jumps. So it can be two wheel drive and then you just press a button and it is four wheel drive? Do you guys think the 400 4x4 or the 500 4x4 would be better for me. My brother just got a 2002 Raptor and I know it would be way faster than the Scrambler, but how is it compared to a blaster or warrior? Sorry if I sound stupid, but I am just getting started with all this.

Any help is greatly appreciated

Thanks,

Adam

i havent rode the 400 but the 500 is nice.it will easily keep up with a warrior and totally ko a blaster.yes thats how the push button works on them.you know you will go places the raptor can only dream about. the scramblers rock in mud but raptor will roast you any other time.

The 500 scrammy is a good machine. It is down on power compared to the 400. The 400 is a 2 stroke and the 500 is a 4 stroke. Making the 500 faster cost more to make faster than the 2 stroke. Either way I believe you will bw happy .

I'm 6'0" 200 lbs and just sold a 400 4x4 scrammy and still have my 2000 400 scram. I had a clutch and pipe on it. That machine really moved! Unless you race, it would definately have enough power. My dad is 230lbs and rides a stock 400 sport and he loves it. I don't think you will go wrong buying either the 400 or 500. Hope this helps. you can e-mail me if you have any ?'s

the scrambler is way faster then both a warrior or a blaster, even the 400 scrammy would go by a warrior, might be close on top end.

Berman8or
Are you buying new or used
The 500 Scrambler 4x4 should be readily available. The regular 400 4x4 was discontinued in my2000.Polaris brought back the 400 4x4 in my02 as a X but supplies are limited.

To me it would all depend on one thing. Do you plan to add aftermarket engine mods at a later date for more power or leave it STOCK.
If you plan to do mods, the 400 will be a FAR (FAR) better bike. The 400 is easier to mod, Less expensive, and Much more capability ( Up to 70HP ). Also keep in mind a Moded 400 will hang with just about anything out there. I am not saying it is a race machine by any means , but lets just say you won't have to worry about anyone waiting on you. (IF YOU CAN FIND A 400 X)

Stock for Stock I would give the edge to the 500. The Low end 4 stroke power is great for trail riding.

Also note: You may already know this but both bikes are available in 4x2 and 4x4 models. Not all Scramblers are 4wd. I love my 4wd but am finding that I do not use it to the extream I thought I would.2 wd would have served me just fine, I leave mine in 2wd most of the time. The factors between buying 2wd or 4wd are if you plan to go in deep mud on snow over 5 or 6 inches, then you will want a 4x4, the 4x4 also has better RE-SALE. The 4x2 are a bit quicker and Fasted due to the 50LB weight loss.

I agree with BUBBASCRAMBLER.

If you are satisfied with a stock Polaris 500 power wise then ****** it up. If you want a faster and more mod friendly bike get the 400, it has so much more potential. For under $1000 you can build the bike to eat stock Banshee's and Raptors....that is no joke. If you want to keep going you can build a dragster that could beat highly modded Banshee's and/or Raptors. Don't let anyone tell you that just because they have a Raptor or Banshee that your Polaris is slower.

Anyway, I just wanted to respond to a comment made by expedition00...

<< the scrambler is way faster then both a warrior or a blaster, even the 400 scrammy would go by a warrior, might be close on top end. >>

From that it sounds like you are saying that the 500 is faster than the 400...might want to check your sources on that.

Anyway, a Scrambler is indeed much faster than a Blaster, and a fair ammount faster than a Warrior in a straight line.
