What OCTANE?
#1
I have a 97 Scrambler 500 non ho with, AAEN Megaphone muffler,Wiseco high compression piston,K&N. These are the only mods having to do with the engine, What Octane should I run with this piston. (I have not run it yet). I am currently using 87 but that was before the piston.

Ryan, you fail to tell us if you have increased your compression. Does the installation of this new pistion aoutmaticly raise the comp.? and if so how much? Also a good starting point is to run a bit of the old 87 oct. and listen for any predetenation (pinging) if you hear some and feel your timing is where it should be (with all your "go get-em" mods. then step up to the 90 oct. and so on. Keep in mind the higher the octane the cooler and slower the burn. (and it takes more compression to touch it off)

There seems to be alot of talk about octane on these message boards and it seems alot of people have different ideas about it. I also have an street leagal drag race car.It will run on 92 octane "pump" gas but it really runs alot better on 110 octane "race" gas. One thing about it, it will use about twice as much gas ( burns alot faster) and it runs alot hotter. I've also noticed this while running it in my Wolverine, Warrior and my lawnmower. If you get the compresion up to around 11:1 you will most likely have to run the highest Octane gas to get the most out of it.
