mods and tires
#1
I own a 99 400 sport. Can someone lead me in the right direction with pipe and clutch mods. I am looking for something that will improve the machine troughout the whole range. I also will be needing rear tires soon. I was wondering if anyone has any experience with Blackwaters? I do some mud riding, trail riding, and hill climbing.
thanks

Monk01 I have a 99 Scr. w/ RCR kit. I used the Mid range kit. Iam happy w/ it still has a lot of low end to it. I do lot of tight trails and hills. I just installed Delta Force reeds and jeted the carb up one. And went for a test run when the chain broke. It felt a little stronger. I order a Big Bore piston 87mm for it. Just recieved it today. So Iam going to put it in while its down. Let you know how it works out.

Hey JWC,
Sounds like that Scrambler is going to rip. I bet you can beat a Banshee flat out. I know I can keep up with one now. If these machines were as light and small as the true sports, they would be unbeatable. I ride with two Scramblers(400 & 500). I think they are both awesome quads, even though I can still beat both of them. I wish I spent the extra money on a Scrambler.

you are from carbondale? i'm from olyphant, i ride a '99 scrambler 400. do you ride the jermyn often? i can't wait to get out this weekend. i guess its supposed to be in the 40's, good enough for me. i couldn't get out last weekend beacause i was on call for work. i've been dying to get out on some solid ground. i was out two weeks ago, and it was the worst riding i ever did in my life. the snow, mud, ruts... it sucked! maybe i'll see you out riding sometime, i ride with alot of guys from jermyn.

Hey bigdevil,
You didn't miss to much last weekend. I was out, and rode up towards Hancock. It was terrible. There was so much snow and water on the ground. I can't believe my two wheel drive made it. My girlfriend and her sister got two 4-wheel drives buried.(500sportsman & 500 Scrambler) I got the Sportsman to dig itself out, but we had to use the winch on the Scrambler. It was buried up to the seat in mud/snow. They both broke though the ice on what we thought was the trail. I hope it is better this weekend. Do you ever go to the tunnel or to Montage? We ride that way a lot. Do you climb any hills at the Jermyn? My quad takes most of them pretty easy. I love to see the guys with the banshee's be impressed by such a machines as the sport/scrambler. Maybe I will catch you on the trail.

The way you were talking, I thought you meant a 400 Scrambler. Do you? Because if you do, that should beat the Explorer of the line easy. Maybe if you meant the 500 Scrambler I could understand. I can take an Explorer with ease with my sport. Unless you have it modified.

Monk01 It is a 400 Scrambler. The Explorer 400 has the same RCR kit. The only thing I didnt use was the spring that came with the kit. That is because I had the stock white sping out of the scrambler allready in it. And I liked the way it worked. I was told the trans was geared differnt? The tires are differnt in height that changes the gearing some. I wish I knew why the heavier one was faster.

monk,
yeah, i ride up by the tunnel. you mean the one on top of jessup mountain, by the twin dams? the old railroad tunnel? i was up by montage last weekend, walking the dog. it looks awesome up there, but i don't have a trailer yet so i haven't been riding up that way. my scrambler climbs everything at the jermyn. i should do better in about a month when i plan on putting an rcr stage 1 kit on. i rode up towards hancock last december when i bought my scrambler. we only went as far as stillwater because it was so cold. i am looking forward to going all the way when it gets warmer. i would imagine there was still alot of snow up that way last week. it should be completely gone by now. i was out tonight, it was beautiful out. felt like spring. the paths were nice and dry for the most part. i was looking forward to riding this weekend, but i guess the weather is still going to be alittle crappy. a few more weeks yet until we stay in the warm temps. well, maybe i'll see you out somewhere. i might get out saturday for a while.

hey bigdevil,
It only takes me about 15 minutes to get to stillwater. There is two different sets of tracks up there. Did you go by the front of the dam or did you pass the rear of the dam. If you go to the back, that takes you right past our hunting camp. It goes right to Starucca. That is a good ride. If you pass the front, that takes you to Hancock. This way gets a little rough once and a while. When I said we go to Montage, I meant we ride from Carbondale to Montage. My girlfriends father rides from Forest City to Montage. He makes it without gasing when he takes the Sportsman. We used to take some out of his tank when we would run low, but he bought a fuel pack now, so he can take the Scrambler. I hope I can get out this week, because I am putting a lift in my truck, and it is a pain. I was working on it till ten last night.
