Front or Rear Axle?

The rear is not to bad. Front is another story. Buy a shop manual, follow all of the directions very closely. I recommend 4 jack stands, parts washer, 1 can WD40, a torque wrench, and about 2 hours if its your first time. They make replacement kits that include the snap rings. A special snap ring pliers for auto CV joints comes in very very handy. You will discover that in the process.

I did a search on this last week. No good info was found.
Anyways, I pulled the rear shaft and the dealer charged me 21.50 to replace the boot.
(I had a boot allready)
Apparently, there is a snap ring inside that holds the cup and all that on the shaft.

I've found the Polaris ATV Tech Center parts manuals to be very helpful. At least I can see what parts go where! (usally an after the fact question...lol)

Polaris Parts Manuals

These are free, downloadable and printable - unlike the guy selling them on Ebay.
