Does anyone know anything about the 02 Scrambler 400x 4x4? My dealer is trying to get me to buy one, but I know nothing of them and cannot find any info on Polaris' web site...

I currently have a 2000 Xplorer 4x4 (250cc) with a RCR Stage 1 Perf Kit. It is a nice machine with decent power, nice comfortable ride, and goes through almost anything the bigger 4x4's will. I want something that I can get great throttle response from, hit some jumps, and have a machine that has a decent trail ride if I want to puts around. I have heard about frame's snapping when jumping scrambler's. Does the 400x do that? Are there a lot of perf mods that you can find?

Any info like that would be much appreciated... I assume I will be replacing sprockets and chains like my Xplorer if I want mud and water????

Thanks

The 400x is Basically the exact same as the 2000MY Scrambler 400 4x4 model (discontinued in 2000). The only differences are COLOR, GRAPHICS, ALUMINUM WHEELS, UPDATED BRAKES(Steel Brades Lines and Drilled Rotors available on all MY01 Polaris ATVs)and update lower steering Bearing and Shaft also available on Late 01 models.

If you like the ride of your xplorer you will love the ride of the scrambler. It is atleast twice as good, Longer suspension travel Front and Rear. The 400 2 stroke engine is very nice in stock form and with the multitude of Mods available you can make it a real screamer. Ck out some of the mods from the following sites ::
http://www.hotseatperformance.com/
http://www.hpd-inc.com/
http://rittercycle.com/polaris.htm
http://www.aaenperformance.com/

As far as the frame breaking I have not heard this, As you know polaris machines are heavy. If you do allot of big jumps I am sure it could be hard on the frame if you bottom it out. I have heard great things about Hot Seats suspension package to help out there.
Hope this helps

Bubascrambler hit the nail on the head. Pretty much the same machine as the 2000 400 4x4 with a new look. I'm not a huge jumping fan but i had the Hot Seat springs and fox struts on my 2000 500 4x4 and loved them. On my new 400 i went with the Works AT steelers and kept the stock springs. If you want to put on mods the 400 is your choice, at least it was for me. Like i said i had the 500 4x4 wich was a great machine but it did not respond to the mods like the 400 will. I don't think you will be unhappy with the scrambler but just keep in mind the new predator will soon be here if you want a true all out sport quad, but if mud is still in your brain as well as trail riding and small jumps snag the X.

It will most likely be very crowded over the holiday. I am going the weekend before (June 28,29,30). I expect it to be packed but as long as you get a voucher each night for the next day you are there, you should be fine. It just requires you to get there before 9:00AM for a parking spot. If you are DUNE READY (NO TRAILERS)you can usually get in quick. We actually got the Last camp site in the state park available for Friday and Saturday. I am sure the other PRIVATE OWNED camp ground still have openings.

You must be Spark arrested to get in. They are checking everybody for spark arrestors. When I was there in May sound checks were random and I seen alot of Piped Banshees and 400EX getting in that seemed loud to me.

I paid $5345.00 out the door, if that helps. Also brought green primary
and blue secondary springs. Plan to try the green first, then add the blue later. Good luck. I have had a blast on mine, the 250 also comes in blue.
