How many people had their fan/fan sensor fail on them? Mine just pooped on me the other day when I was out in the middle of nowhere. I did a search and saw A LOT of posts on broken fans or broken fan sensors. I was just wondering, since there are more members on here who own Polaris than ever, just how many of you had fan problems with your past or current Polaris quad? If you did have problems, what year is your quad?

My fan blades ejected about 12 miles from camp, couldn't find them anywhere. I was wondering what was going on the fan motor was running but the overtemp light was coming on. I looked down and there were no fan blades at all they just ejected on the trail somewhere. Didn't mess anything up really when they went just nicked the radiator and hose a bit but nothing severe. Had to jury rig the 2001 plastic fan and shroud to fit my 2000.

The fan works on mine but it is making a sound like there is dirt or grit in the bearings of the motor, not that nice sound you hear when you first bought the quad.Gonna look to see if there is anyway to clean it up without having to disassemble the whole front end to get the fan out. Only have 450 miles on mine and its been making this sound for the last 200 miles. I wonder if there is a aftermarket fan that would hold up better.

Billyclub,

I've searched extensively, and I could not find a bolt-on replacement. The noise you are hearing is the output shaft ball bearing. It's double-sealed, so even if water gets in it, it's doubtful it gets into the motor. Anyway, the way it is in there makes it very difficult to change without destroying the housing. It is bradded in. You can call Kieth at 800-341-7757 and order the fan at a huge discount. The fan part# is 30100515. Also, you can remove the fan without taking apart the front end. Just take off your front rack, pop out the hood, and disconnect the power wiring going to the fan. After that, there are just 4 screws holding the fan to the back of the shroud. Good luck.

There are exact bolt on replacements for the fans. I did a search on the internet and found a guy in Dayton, Ohio. Who sells the exact same fans. I had to replace mine on my SP500 2000. About half the cost of what the dealer wanted. I will look for the info on the guy, you have to contact him through the internet-email.
I think he sells the stuff out of his house. But a nice guy who gave me great service.

A friend of mine lost his fan the other day on a SP 500 HO 2001. He took it apart and his was full of mud. He likes to ride in really deep mud/water. He found an exact replacement at the local auto parts store. Advance Auto.

So, you think burning out the charging system will be easier or cheaper to fix than replacing a bad fan sensor? They aren't meant to operate with a constant load like that. Save yourself some bucks and fix it right.

What makes you think you have a bad sensor? I thought at one time my sender was bad so I took it out and put it in some hot water and it turned on at 189 degrees per the thermometer in the water. The senders are not expensive around 30. dollars and it can be replaced without disassembling anything.Simple fix if it proves to be faulty.
