Is it worth it, to put a new headpipe and silencer on a 500 4x4?
Some people say it makes a great difference, and others say not worth it.If I put a silencer, rejet and change clutch spring will it make a good difference? Any input will be appreciated.I know not to expect gains like a 2 stroke, but some would be nice.

a pipe and can will do very little.

but a pipe, can, filter, jets, and clutch kit will make a noticable diferance.

alot of companies sell speed kits that include all of the above for around $450ish.

also, try and lower the gearing in the rear (less than 15% due to the 4x4)
that will make a noticable differnce.

PolarisMech, you mentioned to change the gearing in a 4x4? Don't you think that will mess up the diff. case? Turning the tires at 2 different speeds will mess things up. Correct? I'm interested in this, due to I have a 4x4 and I'll really like to do this. I just don't want to buy a new trans and diff case.

I am interested also. But I am nervous of changing ratio on back alone..
What do you run? Any problems? Please advise.

the 4x4 kicks in when the rears move 17 percent faster than the front.
soo keep gearing changes to under 15 percent,(one or two teeth up on the rear sprocket) and don't leave the 4x4 switch on all the time during trail riding (it may kick in and out under certain conditions), and just flip it on when ya need it.

stick to that and you should do fine.
altough, it sounds a lil skeptical and polaris would be screaming NO, i know alot of people doing it,or running way mismatched tires, and haven't heard of any problems.
