I need some answers to these questions. Fist, how fast is it? For example, if you punch the gas to full throttle will it fly or will it just sorta slowly gain momentum? Second question, when changing the drive gear, do you have to stop? Press the brake? If not, what is the proccess of changing the gear? Third question, can you change to 2wd to 4wd on the move? Last question, can you turn on the On-Demand system on the move? Thanks

the sportsman is quite fast...maybe 55-60 depending on the surface and the tire presure.. i have had mine going 55 on the lake...but thats on snow...in a 400 yard stretch i can hit 50 and that includes slowing down in time...i would say i was in for a surprize when i punched it for the first time...i can hit 30 in about 4 seconds on grass....to change from high to low u must stop...otherwise the gears grind...dont need to use the brake... just stop and change the gear...i dont think you understand the 4wd on a polaris...there is a switch and if off you will always have 2wd... if on you will have 2wd drive untill the tires slip then u have 4wd...you can switch this at anytime...except when any tires are spinning...never activate the 4wd when rear wheels are spinning!!...u may think this doesnt activate in time...but it does...i hope i answered you ?s...if you dont understand what i am saying just email me at... bobby413@hotmail.com

Mine will get to 30 mph pretty quick, and then slowly climb further. I have the unfortunate one machine that maxes out at 44 mph, tried a pipe and clutch kit, no change. Once I hit 48 mph down hill on a gravel road, but that was it. I am settling on the 44 max speed now that I have added 27" tires and a lift kit. A little on the top heavy side now, I sure can traverse alot more than I could with the factory rubber.

I guess I am one luckey son of a gun. My sp500
99mod is my first polaris and it is fast. It does 60 on the spedo. and feels like a sports bike when it accelerates. I don't miss my Honda at all. I read all these posts bashing Polaris and I have to laugh. Me and my two sons probably have more time on wheelers than 10 of them telling how great one or another is. I really enjoy the posts by some of the senior members and they greatly influenced me to buy this first bike. Read your manual and it will answer any questions i could think of. It only takes about 30 min. to properly grease a 500sp so i fail to see where eveyone gets off on this. I don't these machines have anything to apologize about. Thanks for listening.
