The brushes in the starter are shot so I went to pull start it and the damn thing dislocated my shoulder.
The rope pulled out a little more then halfway, then just jerked back in........HARD.
Once I got the shoulder set and used the other arm it did the same thing(excludeing the shoulder part
So I slowly pulled it out til I heard it go TDC then let the rope back in and pulled it again and it started right up,without the kick back Now when I want to start it I have to slowly pull till the stroke is there, then let it in,then pull.
Does anyone know whats causeing this and what the fix is(besides fixing the starter )
Is there some type of compression release???

Yes, their is a compression release. sounds like yours isn't working properly. Also, if you hit the gas while pulling it, it cancels the compression release.

I watched my friend break his arm by pulling the pull start while another friend hit the gas. The engine kicked back and took his arm with it. We never let him live it down.

geeze! that's terrible 500DUSE!
my friend tried his pull start once, just to make sure the thing worked, and it had the same 'kick-back' affect that yours did.
i wonder if that is the reason why the 700 didn't get one!
order that new battery! LOL
(the 'gell' type are very reliable and can take a real beating.)

heal fast!

mtpockets,
Not really a big deal,
Hurts like hell when the shoulder comes out
hurts so good going in
I sky-dive,and once it came out when I jumped at 15'000ft
got it back in at 10'000.
Pulled the shoot at 5'000 and it came out again
Made for a rough landing

Yelp, thats why they dident put a recoil on the 700.
To big to pull
It's not the battery thats shot,
it the brushes in the starter.
Which I just ordered today

mt
The springs are worth it,
I think I paid $80?????from the dealer
Then I made the mistake of letting my dealer install them,
the bastard tried charging me $7or800 to install..
Most guys charge around $50

evan
I tried the mel gibson stuff,
