All I hear about are the stock axles of about every brand made, either bend or snap. Why can't the big companies make them as strong as after market ones?? Is it kickbacks or what. I ride a 400ex and jumping is all I love to do, and I have landed right, wrong, flat, you name it and my axle is fine. I think it's a gamble. You get a good axle or crapie one, no matter what brand you ride.

Am I right ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ?

yamaha switched there axel supplier in '00 (around there) a guy i know bent 4 axels on his wolverine, and now he has a '02 axel and it's fine, so it must have been the supplier trying to save a few bucks. they also bent the axel on the raptor in the DW shoot-out

Do you think Suz. Hon. Kaw. Yam. all use different suppliers??
Do any of them make there own? I guess I'm not very knowledgeable in this area.

stock axles aren't heat treated..
they want them to bend instead of snap like a much stronger heat treated one..

they feel this is alot less dangerous, and you can also still ride the quad to make it home.

Hey Polaris Mech, did you make it over to Orlando this week? Worth the trip, just for the ride.

The 400EX has a great axle stock. I've punished the heck out of two of them (first one replaced due to hub/spline wear).

Some aftermarket axles are very bad about breaking. One brand in particular I've seen numerous times fail where the stock axle held up fine.

The 400's strength is partially in it's ability to flex and return to it's original shape. I've taco'd countless rear wheels on the inside's from jumping at the dunes and track yet the axle's fine.

However, it's not impossible to bend. It is a VERY good axle though.

Check out my track pics, dune pics, and video to get a glimpse of what I've put her thru. Most of that was when it was bone stock...

Good point 86atc, I've got a bud down the street with a 400ex...been there jumped that, still stock. Heck even the full race mods snap'em, check out some of the Huevos vids, and some of the GNCC races, even they snap. Change 'em out and get back at it.
