Since Polaris came out with the Sportsman H.O i was wondering how much difference there is between the H.O and the original sportsman.
I know it is supposed to have 20% more power but is it really that much better than the original?

 

yes it is...plus many suspension, durability, and brake improvemnets.

 

What year did the HO come out?

 

I believe it was 2001.

 

i think not sure though the h.o. engine have 38 hp and the old one was
32 hp...

 

On the duno tune machine the 500ho has 25hp. the 400 sportsmen has 15hp.dyno tune machines are not wrong.the dealers try to say polaris test them on the crank shaft.but even their they bumped their head.not polaris, but the dealers for a selling point.

 

the H.O. has better bottom end power, but the non h.o sp500 has a higher top speed.

 

Mine will go past 60 on the speedo. That non HO must really be fast!

I am told that the EBS clutches tend to slow the machine down some though...

i bought a new 2000 sportsman 500 two months latter the ho came out my friend bought it and i find that he is about 3 miles faster on black top but in the trails i have no problem keeping up with him {granted im riddiculiously aggressive on mine} someone said the front end is stronger if they are will the parts fit on mine i have a serious problem keeping the right cv together on mine i still need a manual so i can save some money on repairs
