Sportsman Power
#14
I have a 2000 500 Sportsman and ride with a couple 500 HO's. There is a slight power differance, but not even close to the 20% Polaris claims. The ride of the non HO's is also a little plusher. The HO's have a stiffer ride, slightly better brake feel, and a little more WOT performance. Not a big differance with any of it though.

Rincon, I am not trying to be sarcastic, but do you spend as much time in the other forums (Honda, Yamaha, Kaw.....etc) as you do in this one? You dont claim to have a Polaris(not that you have to have one to come in here...I know free country) but you have ALOT of input in here. USUALLY, people come in here who own a Polaris or are thinking of owning one.

My family has both a 2000 (non HO) and a 2001 HO so I will try to remember all the differences for you.
First the motor definitely has more power across the board and those who say it doesn’t usually are riding non-HO’s.
The steering shaft is thicker and has a metal bushing that still is “like New” tight after 3000 miles on mine.
The brake rotors and pads are “greatly improved” and again are still good after 3000 miles on mine.
The “bulging under presser” rubber brake lines were replaced with steel braded.
Clutch cover better seal
Redesigned brake lever.
I know there is more but at this point it doesn’t matter. Bottom line when the HO arrived it was made to STEER BETTER, ACCELERATE QUICKER, HAVE MORE TOP END, STOP BETTER and most of all is more dependable. And as one who has both and rides them the same as well as always lets the dealer service them …………. The HO is what was promised “New and Improved”.
Just my opinion on the HO from my experience………..
