600 Twin Durability.
#1
Has anyone in here bought a 600 Twin yet or ridden one for a long period of time (like a 10 – 20 mile trail ride or something.)?
I was wondering if they corrected the water pump problem most seem to be having.
I am also curious at the difference in ride, if any, with the new lubed-for-life bushings (How may grease fittings does it have now? My 500 has a ton but I wouldn't trade the ride quality!).
One more thing for you guys that have the 2002-2003 700s, have you had any problems with the straight shifting?
Sorry about the questions guys but hey, I like to be fully aware of what I am going to spend 6500 to 7000 hard earned bucks on and most of you seem to have done your homework.

I have talked to some of the Polaris test drivers that have put over 5000 miles on the new 600 twin Sportsman. They claim that they have had no problems at all in that many miles. If this is true than this is quite impressive. They all seem to like them and feel there is very little difference in the performance compared to the 700 Sportsman. If they have had a problem with the pump cover leaking they wouldn't tell me about it even when I asked about it. They have always told me the truth in the past so I believe them on this.

Syclone,
i've owned my 700 for a few months now.....i ride it hard......NO problems to date.
i love the Park feature- it stays right where i left it, especially on hills.
i find the straight shifter a cinch! no problems here
the 600 intrigues me. wanna ride one when it arrives....i like the blue color too....
600 or 700? who the hell knows at this point. i suggest riding each than decide. that's what i'm going to do!
and remember, you can't lose with either model because...... it's a POLARIS!

That's a lot of miles on a new quad Scottaboshia. Must be nice being able to test drive 4-wheelers all day!
If there is little performance difference, surely they will upgrade the performance of the 700. If they don't, I see most people going to the 600 (which is 500 less I think). Maybe they will come out with a HO or EFI for the 700!
Mtpockets-
Thanks for the info on the shifter.
I notice you are riding on 26” outlaws. Do you have any problems with them rubbing the inner fender over jumps or turning?
Thank goodness they are made in the USA.

the overlap of the tread along the side of the tire JUST BARELY clears on corners riding normally(front tires i'm referring to). straight line jumping no problem.....although it is kinda tough to make a jump with those heavy, rumbling, goddamn tires.
if you are looking for aftermarket tires, i DO NOT recomend the Outlaws. in fact, mine are for sale- i just can't take the harsh ride.
anyways, i hope this has helped!

What are you gonna get next? I have heard/read the bi/tri claws are the way to go for just about everything. That's only what I have heard/read,I don't know. I could use some new tread myself (same tires that came on the thing). But why buy new tread for a machine I am just going to sell as soon as I can get a 600. Or should I say be able to afford.

i bought the Outlaws when i had a SP500. the wheels fit the new 700, BUT i did have to invest in new wheel spacers(2" on the 500, 1" for the 700)
to buy them now or later is your choice.....personally, i think my stock 700 tires are just fine. you might find the same to be true.....if so, save the extra 'dough' for something else.
i am going to buy a set of aftermarket tires....in fact i started a thread on it and a lot of guys have given my great advice. i just can't decide! they all sound terrific! i'm stumped on which ONE to chose!
good luck with your choice!
