I currently ride a modified TrailBlazer (RCR Kit) and am wanting more power. I usually ride trails and in sand.

I can't decide on whether to bore the TrailBlazer or to step up to a Scrambler. If I step up to a Scrambler I am leaning to the 400 because I like 2 strokes, but I am not sure of the added value of 4wd. Please help me make a decision.

hey derek,

The four wheel drive on the Scramblers is awesome.
I have a 400 sport, but took a 500 Scrambler out yesterday. I was riding in some deep mud. I also has a friend with a 400 Scrambler (he had a Trailblazer.) He loves it. He said he never thought the four wheel drive would make that much of a differance. I am selling my sport now, but don't know what to buy either. I either want a Sportsman or 500 Scrambler. If you can afford it go for the Scrambler.

Unless your really going to use it e.g. mudding, heavy snow. you really don't need it. I went with a two-wheel drive because it's lighter, cheaper, and I couldn't justify spending the extra ching for something I wasn't going to use that much. Also, there is more maintenance involved.

If you ever go hillclimbing after it has rained or snowed recently, you'll be very glad you have 4wd.

Derek -

I ride a SC400 4x4, mostly trails, although I have recently installed the RcR stage 1 kit and find myself on the flat track more and more. I think the best thing about having the on-demand 4x4 is that I decide when I need it, and if I'm trying to go fast, it isn't engaged. While it's true that I'm carrying a little extra weight because of the front differential, etc. the kit negates that and then some. I have been going up a steep hill and gotten stopped, and rather than try to find a way down, flipped the little 4x4 button and motored on up the hill.

I also have a snow blade and for plowing, the 4x4 is essential. I really like having the option available to me.

Thanks everyone for your help. I am definitely going to go with the Scrambler. However, I'm not too sure on the 4wd. My wife rides a Trail Boss 325 and my 6 year old will soon have a mini. Therefore, the only time I can use the 4wd is when I'm not with them (which isn't too often). $600 to $900 difference for something not used too often will pay for a lot of other mods.

You might use your new 4wd to pull them out...since you can go more places..so can they now....

I found I needed the 4wd..just pulling up to the river on a sandy bank....try to back up...the rear end digs in....I just hit the 4wd and off I go.
