My Quest 650 is faster then my Sportsman 700??
#1
What's up everyone! This past weekend, I let my friend ride my Quest 650 while I took my SP 700. We stopped and raced both machines...I could not believe that the quest 650 was faster then my 700 on 3 runs. It took off faster and just kept on going. I think I would of passed him if the road was a bit longer, but I stood there in aww when I saw this. The magazines must be wrong, or there is something wrong with my 700! What do you think??

the 700 stock clutching is too lazy. the bike needs slightly more rpm combined with upshifting. in stock form the shift is very non-responsive and you can actually let off the gas to feel the shift. a clutch kit is a must, but i wouldn't recommend a kit that raises engagement rpm; it does not need this. with the right kit it will slightly lift the front tires between 20-30 mph.

Gotta agree with Randrball, first get the clutch-kit, then hit it with a K&N, and a better flow silencer.....I think the Hot Seat guys have a 700 article coming out in Dirt Wheels soon, don't buy the mag, just read it on the newsstand (no offense to Hot Seat...Dirt Wheels blows). They've got the 40 or 42mm carb for 3-4 additional lengths in a race also. HPD sells a pretty good looking silencer for them. Lot's of choices.

i agree the sp700 has great potential. the mechanic at the local polaris dealer had his 700 at a local atv days event and their was drag races set up, and he was racing raptors, banshee's and 400EX's, and they were slightly moded. so the potential IS there!!

No surprise here... The last test I saw of the new Outlander 400 said it was way faster than a Sportsman 400 & as fast as the Sportsman 500. 'Bombs always have the muscle, magic in those Rotax motors.

the wording in my above post can be slightly misleading. a clutch kit will kick out tremendous amounts of torque right from the bottom so hang on. i only stated the 20-30 mph to show the potential even at higher speeds. happy riding!!!!
