I get about 50 miles on a tank of gas depending on how i drive, the only problems i have hade is that i would stall and only idial it was dirt in the fuel system. I do think that it rides rather rough compared to my sp 500 but it has a soild axel and shaft drive wich makes i ride that way all in all it is an excellent wheeler plus it is a touch less expensive then the sp 500

This last weekend my friends and I went 19 miles starting out with the tanks completely full before we filled up. Here are the results
99 Magnum 1.3 Gallons 14.62 mpg
99 Xplorer 1.2 Gallons 15.83
95 Sportsman 1.2 Gallons 15.83
The trail conditions were far from ideal. This was @ 31 degrees riding through 1 foot of unplowed unbroken snow in 4WD with tire slippage. The Magnum did the majority of the trail breaking.

I'm not sure about the MPG thing but this machine was made for rock pounding!!!!
The shaft drive is far superior for rocks in that it creates a lot more ground clearance and is more solid and capable of a 700lb machine resting on it. The front struts absorb a lot of pounding and give a better front end ride than ANY other atv I have ridden.(much better than older sportsmans)If only they were as "tough" as a-arms.
An independent rear end would be better in this situation, but in many others I would prefer a solid axle.
The full body, slick, plastic frame guard is very good at protecting the underside also.
no mechanical problem other than my fault at this time. I had to have an a-arm worked on after hitting a rock at a very bad angle and speed. This machine has proven very reliable and very very fun to ride. I would choose no other utility atv to own at this time, although there are a lot of really good ones. thank you

I just bought a Y2K magnum and it rides great. It is the 2nd smoothest ride you can buy. It is $450 less than a sportsman and is more suited for farm use. The solid axle is better in corners and gives you great traction with the traction mount bilstein shock. It has plenty of power and the EBS works good in slowing you down. I only used the breaks once to see if they worked other wise you don't need to touch them. After looking at other brands in the 500 class the choice was easy the magnum is far tougher and built better than the others.

I also use my magnum for farm use.I'm on it every day back and forth to the shop for tools or home for lunch.Very, very solid machine. It does everything well.I find myself using the winch for alot of different things. From pulling trees out a creek, pulling stuck cows from freestalls,to simple things like oil,or tire changes. The weight of the front helps you pull out of any situation. Also helps when pulling heavy loads.I pulled an enclosed snowmobile trailer, with 2 700cc sleds in it, up a hill, with 6 inches of snow. The best thing is knowing theres no chains!!!!
