Dave, the tie rod shouldn't be that much, I think the ends are more, and they're not bad. You should always check over the machine after damage....after all, it's your butt back on their when it's fixed.

Don't know what your friends chain is for, if it's a Polaris, you can check with Hot Seat, or even Rocky Mtn ATV. Count the pins before you call, that'll tell them how long of chain you need. That's some great life-expectancy.

I don't have any experience with the SP400, maybe someone else out there can help out on that one.

Good Luck,
Ken

The sportsman 400 isn't a bad machine but it could use a little more power. I know this cause I own 2 of them. Otherwise its a great quad.

for the chain go with RK there hella tough

and for the tie rod. last time i bonked anything hard enough to bend a tie rod i shattered the wheel bearings which caused my whole wheel to fall off and also breaking the strut tower (lots of money in fixing that one)

Artic,
I just bent a tie rod also. Instead of buying a new one I just took it off a straightened it with a hammer. Put it back on and it works fine, no other broken parts.
