TALONHAWK!! The tube that you are speaking of is a cold air inlet duct that mounts up to the crankcase. It helps keep the crankcase cool not the pvt.I dont mean to be a pain in the a$$,but there is no inlet tube on mine for the pvt.And from what i was told 99&00 are the same.If there was an inlet tube to the pvt Im sure modquad or someone else that is working on a cooling system would have seen that.It is just in back of the pvt mounting plate with a rubber boot mounting to the crankcase. If that is where you have the fan mounted, then you r cooling the crankcase.

2manytoys, the air intake for your pvt is the engine side cover. air is pulled in through the side cover of the motor and comes in right behind the primary clutch. so speaking, there is not really an intake tube, but that is the air intake. Bubba

Thanks Bubba!!!
2manytoys, Like I said, I'm not too great at explaining things
sometimes. So, lets all get out our hymnels (service manual) and
turn to the section on CLUTCH MAINTENANCE, page 6.3 dated 4/99
paragraph #4----QUOTE----PVT SYSTEMS SEALING. Refer to appropriate
illustration below and on the following pages. The PVT system is
air cooled by fins on the drive clutch stationary sheave. The fins
create a low pressure area in the CRANKCASE CASTING, drawing air into
the system through an INTAKE DUCT. The opening for this duct is located
at a high point on the vehicle (location varies by model). The intake
duct draws fresh air through a vented cover. All connecting air ducts
(as well as the inner and outer covers) must be properly sealed to
ensure clean air is being used for cooling the PVT system and also
to prevent water and other contaminants from entering the PVT area.
This is especially critical on units subject to frequent water forging.
---------UN QUOTE----------------------------------------------------
If you don't have a service manual, just remove the PVT cover and
remove the Drive clutch. There is the air intake opening and yes you
are right in does and may cool the crankcase but that air does indeed
come from that intake. If you still don't understand just shoot some
air from an air compressor down that intake opening. At the same time
put your hand over the exhaust duct. You should feel the air coming out!

Well thanks for the lesson. You have explained it very well unlike the the so called polaris mechanic at the local dealer.I guess I will have to find another mechanic that KNOWS polaris. Sorry for the misunderstanding.I guess if i need to find something outi should go here first instead of the dealer!!!
