One other shot, I've heard of the counterbalancer siezing. Have you checked/changed the oil for that. I always prefer Mobil 1 10w30.

Yeah...just changed the oil during the rebuild. If it is the counterbalancer that would make me mad....hate the split the cases, lots of work! Time will tell.

Make sure you havn't broken a flywheel key. Had this happen to me right after a complete rebuild. Could not get it to start to save my life. It throws your timing off and it just will not start. Ruined a day of riding over a 50 cent part. Did what you are doing. I went through my motor and checked everything and it came down to the flywheel key.

Keep in mind that the extra oil you are using is actually making it run hotter. Gas entering the cylinder does a great deal of the cooling of an engine, exspecially a 2 stroke. Since the carb will only flow so much liquid, by using more oil you are using less gas. I don't know that it has anything at all to do with your problem, but make sure your overheat light is working so that you will know that it isn't getting hot and binding, just in case.

I wouldn't believe it if I didn't see it. Turns out it was my starter! The bendix spring was broken and would engage my starter at will and shut my engine down. I have never heard of this before. It has ran 2 hrs. straight now at the dealership with the starter removed.

I am this close to saying "to hell" with my starter. This will be the second time I have rebuilt it. Oh well....I would miss it.

Considering I almost beat a Raptor with only 60 psi cylinder pressure....I can't wait to see how it runs now. Wait till I get porting! Anyway, this engine rebuild has been a bad deal and I hope it never happens again.

Thanks for all the ideas...this one was weird.

Adam, when you get ready for some porting, give me a shout. I can turn it around in less than 3 days and save you enough money to more than get your flywheel machined as well. Do away with that starter. My race mod big bore will always start at least on the 2nd pull and it is not a pain at all. kind of get used to setting on the seat and giving it a pull with the right hand while giving a little gas with the left. I really dont miss the starter at all. Ken's been without a starter for quite a long time.Bubba

Good call Bubba. Adam, besides the wt savings....and hp gained after milling the flywheel, starter removal is a good way to mod. Then you can even remove the battery (run a 4800mf 50volt capacitor for around $4 from an electronics outlet. Just replace the rope when she gets a little worn. Zoom, Zoom Baby!!!!!
