I plan on purchasing either a 400 or 500 scrambler and am trying to weigh the options. I like the low end grunt more than the top speed. I have been leaning towards the 500 because of this , but am wondering how they compare to each other. Has anyone ridden both and can you tell me the difference? Does either one feel (seat of the pants) faster? Which one has more torque?-like which one will pull the wheels up easier? Is the 500 as modifiable? I know two strokes are easier and cheaper to modify , but can the 500 be as modified, in other ways? I've also hear of some guy that does modifications for Polaris. I think it's like RCR or something. Does anyone know who I'm talking about and what he offers? Thanks for all info. It is much appreciated!!!

You are talking about www.rittercycle.com owned by Rick and Amy Ritter. I asked him for advice, and he recommended a pipe by a different manufacturer! He was very honest and I will difinately buy from him when I get the money. As far as which Scrambler, do you want a 4x4, or 4x2? Right now the only 4x2 Scrambler is the old Sport. I have a 500 and rode a 400 that my friend has. Basically, they are about dead even. His was new and mine is just getting broken in, so it is getting faster. If you plan on doing a lot of mods, go with the 400, because there are a lot more mods available for it, and it responds to them better. If you want the TQ go with the 500, but remember it isn't a pulling machine/utility quad. As far as pulling wheelies, they about equal in my experience. Mine is able to pull 'em better, since it's getting broken in, but I've never been, or tried to be, very good at wheelies, but my friend can ride one on my 500 all day long. These are just my opinions, anyone else?

Both are pretty fast in stock form. If you want to modify the engine get the 400. If you want the most torque get the 500. For hill climbing, rough and technical trails, and mud I prefer the 500. The torque is excellent. If you want to scream through the trails, do a little jumping, and hit the dunes get the 400. They both do most things equally well, but I think the 500 is a better hill climber because it is torquier. I bought the 500 becuase I plan to leave the engine in stock form. I don't want to spend several hundred dollors for hop ups. Also I rode both before I bought mine and I preferred the ride of the 500. I also love the growl of the 4 stroke. The 500 costs about $500 dollars more. Either way you will not be disappointed.
