Cant even make a decent post without people sending useless junk to my email list. My friend if you refuse to believe Dirt Wheels fine. But for a further note I too have raced the same Polaris ATV and have beaten it. I just seem to have a better top end and accelaration. True, the riders have a say so in racing, muding, etc but me and my friend have been riding ATV's many years know. And have even traded ATV's for a day.But I still like my Griz. You know good and well if you had got another ATV you would have defended it just as well. When forced to choose the best ATV, of course where going to pick our quad. If would be stupid putting your OWN quad down. Peace

Ok If you want to Use Magazine test for your Argument for your Grizzly. I ask you this You seem to have a lot of faith in the "Testers" At Dirt Wheels and I will also add ATV Action. They have now had 2 Shootouts between the Magnum 500 (I know its not the Sportsman but its close enough)and the Grizzly and in both contest the Magnum500 was judged the winner. The Grizzly did Barely win the drag race portion but Who rides firelines and mudholes at 60mph. We have a Grizzly that rides with us here ,went with us Sunday. I noticed that he had pulled the side covers off of his Quad. I asked him about it ,he said "after he kept getting oil temp lights last summer his dealer suggested doing that to see if it helped the problem" it did. Hey I just looked at your profile. Brandon ,been a while how you been? I wondered where you had gotten to. You are the same Brandon that we used to call "CoolDaddy" right.

I see Monster Grizz forgot to tell everyone that his Monster Grizz has a clutch kit and a rejet kit,not that it makes a big deal.I was in the Yammy Forum and seen him post about that stuff.Defending your own quad?Thats BS.It would be more benifical to give the good with the bad when posting about your quad. But than,NOBODY has a 4x4 quad that can out do the MONSTER GRIZZ in any circumstance, just ask him,he'll tell ya.===BILL

OO Xplorer 400cc 4x4
If your feeling really HOT,there must be a Grizz around ''OVERHEATING''

Well Bill I am getting ready to get the 40 mm carb and the weight and spring kit for the clutch seems that Grizz isn't as mean as it seemed to be and just think if the magnum beat it...it doesn't even want to be compared to a sportsman. Glad you guys showed this guy up for who he is...it is really sad when you have to change your name to post on this forum. Whats wrong Grizz cat got your tongue...go back over and hide in the yamaha forum, its ashame those guys have to put up with you...

When you want to ride COOL ride a sportsman, when you want to ride hot...well you know how it goes hehehe

This might not be a good comparison since we did not have a sportman with us. I went riding with my bother in law in some pretty rough trairain. He has a scramber 400, an Express 300 and borrowed a Grizzly from a friend. After every one had a turn riding the 3 bikes no one wanted to ride the Grizzly. I may have the biggest engine but going over the rough stuff, It plain sucked... The suspension was so stiff it was hard to control when you went through rutts and bumps. After this experience I went out and bought to new Explorer 400's. Lighter weight, better suspension and more powwwwwer. I have been out 3 times on them and haven't regretted it yet...

I've had both of these bikes, so I've got to give my input. I was in the market for a large ATV in 1998, and was primarily interested in the grizzly and sp500. Even though all magazine tests pointed out that the sp500 was the bike to go with, I decided to get the Yamaha (japanese) product figuring better reliability and durability. Boy, was I wrong. The first afternoon I had it I got into a tiny amount of mud and came home to wash it. I stood it up on its rear rack and went to washing with a garden hose. When I got through and set it back down, the starter wouldn't even respond at all. It was 2 days before whatever component that I got wet finally dried out and started working again. Luckily, this part never failed again. Next, the bike overheated on me several times. The only way the bike wouldn't overheat was if riding it as a sport/trail machine. Just tooling along very slow would make it overheat quickly, not to mention my right ankle, which would almost blister in the summer from the belt tranny cover heat. On top of these problems, after having the bike only 2 months, paint was cracking off at many welds on my bike, and to my surprise Yamaha didn't even use a primer when painting the bike. At about 500 miles, my front wheel bearings were worn out. So, now with a bad taste in my mouth for Yamaha, I set out to buy the bike that I should have bought in the first place, the sp500. I got my sp500 and it has been a great bike with no major problems. The ride is 1st class, I'm a maintenance freak so the greasing doesn't bother me at all, the 4wd is awesome, etc. Being objective, the Polaris has overheated on me when I got the radiator plugged with mud. But that's the only problem I've experienced. I wouldn't have another Grizzly unless I lived somewhere that stayed less than 60 degrees year long. One other thing that went out on my griz was the rear drum brake after only a couple of months (roughly 200 miles). As far as working on a quad, my Polaris is simple to work on and parts are much cheaper than any Japanese ATV. I heard someone comment about losing ground clearance when pulling a trailer. What dummy is going to pull a heavy trailer and go mud riding or something else where maximum ground clearance is needed. The only time I pull a trailer is around the house where my Polaris never overheats no matter how slow or long the pull. I've tried not to bash anyone's bike, but I've had both and am happy with the one I own now. By the way, I had to put a locker in the front diff. on my griz and 26" mud tires to go the same places I go with my stock Sportsman.

umm... sledder, forgive me if I'm wrong but aren't all quads covered in plastic... cuz my 2 sure seem to be.. I am totally in agreement with atving, the sportsman is like a cadillac, the grizzley is like... well.. maybe taurus... The sportsman has ALL the bells and whistles which make it a VERY popular. As for the price, maybe polaris know's how to sell them???

Yeah, i can run all three head lights on my sportsman.. .just put the switch right in the middle.. and i admit, I bought a 200 dollar jack for my sportsman to grease it, but if it took you 30 minutes to change the spark plug, you must not have any hands... ha.. Well, all i know is I have had my Polaris Express 300 for 4 years and have not had 1 problem with it yet. As for Yamaha, they do make good four wheelers but, my friend has a 98 big bear and the u joints broke... my 98 sportsman... no.. not yet.

Well 300 expressor your very observant. I hadn't noticed that my Polaris or grizzly were covered in plastic. Thanks for the whole car analogy to, it's also pretty meaningless. All the IRS or true fourwheel drive in the world is worthless if you can't keep the sp500 from overheating , have to keep readjusting the actuator and replace the tie rods.
