Looks like you're in the wrong quads if you're worried about drag racing them. The SP will outdo the Yammy in every 4x4 atv task there is.

The Kodiak will outrun a SP 500 non HO as I've done numerous times so a 400 is just a pipedream. Yea, Polaris will out mud it but that's about it. No engine brake in the front wheels on a Polaris = no thanks .

Well my 400 Polaris 2001 sportsmen does have front braking or you may want to call it EBS. It did not come that way.All you have to do on "stock secondary clutching",,not EBS but stock clutching is change the setting on the secondary from a stock setting of2to2. Set it to 1to1 on the secondary and you will have EBS. Through a heelclick clutch kit in it and you will have one pulling yahmeeeeeha eating machine. And that includes the "standard" 500.

Okay, the guy asked about a drag race...

My father has an SP 400, and though I haven't had much seat time on it I can tell you it's no speed demon.

I also have a friend with a Polaris Magnum 500 (w/EBS) and a friend with a '02 Kodiak.

I have actually watched them race and it's dead even...no one wins. Same acceleration, same top speed. Of course, the acceleration varies as to who hits the throttle first, but the top end is the same.

Now, I know the original question was about the SP 400, but I would guess that it's safe to assume that it is slower than the Magnum 500 (though I have not seen them race), thus making it slower than the Kodiak.

To Griz, your modded up 400 may outrun a Kodiak, but I'm talkin strictly stock and stock a Kodiak will win a drag. My Eiger will outrun my Kodiak though, which I didn't think it would being a 5 sp.

Ok,how fast will your yamhee go. Im talking kodiak400.I have two kodiaks here.Top speed out of either one of them is 58mph.Thats on a radar gun.The Polaris 400 witch is stock except the k&n air filter,re jeted, heelclicker clutch kit,on radar is 63 mph.My kodiaks,k&n air filter, rejeted,is 58mph.So its not like I did not try to peak the yamheees out.Cause I had thoughs before the polaris. What I did find out If you install a heelclicker clutch kit to any polaris you will gain around 8mph compaired to stock clutching. Also you are conected up to the tranny all the time like EBS but better.
