has anyone ever bent a swingarm or frame???

my 2001 scrambler 500 4x4 was hit in the left rear wheel ,bending the axle and breaking the hub...I replaced the hub and axle only to notice that the axle is not parrelell to the bike!!!
The wheelbase on the right side is 1.5" shorter than the left side???
Is the problem most likely a bent swingarm or frame or both????
has anyone else had this problem???what was bent????
Thanks

Hey locomofo,
Have you tried adjusting the axle? On every quad I've seen, you can adjust the axle alignment with a couple of screws. And if you don't have a service manual, you should probably get one, they are a big help.

sorry for the bad luck dude, more than likely you probally bent your frame if you took a side hit or landing . I broke my swing arm a few months ago from jumping it too high. hopefully you bent your swingarm and not your frame. the rear part of the scrambler frame where the swingarm goes is pretty rigid.best luck dude!!!! later

I've got the same problem with my '01 scrambler 500 4x4. You can adjust it a little but not that much. My problem is a bent swing arm which is weird in that it is something that shouldn't bend considering all the gussetting on it- it should break or crack before it bends.

I have cracked a weld on my 98 Scram before but they are weaker than the 99 and newer ones. They and ed the extra gussets when they increases the travel from 8.5 to 10.5.
I don`t think there is an adjustment. I would have to agree that the swing arm is bent over the frame. It most likely bent where it mounts to the frame. It`s the logical weak point during a side impact. HTH

I bent the frame on my 2001 Sportsman 500 by rolling it end over end 6 times down a hill. That is why I tell everyone to BUY INSURANCE. I have a new machine thanks to having bought the insurance.
