I recently aquired a 1975 kawasaki ke175 and when i went to start it it fired up on the second kick but soon started revving really high regardless of where the throttle was at. Does anyone know what could be wrong. i know this is an atv forum but i didn't know where else to ask

Either the slide stuck in the carb or the cable stuck or you have a bad intake leak.

ive had it happen on my atv and it turned out to be just the throttle cable was to tight another time i rolled it and spun the throttle around backwards when i went to twist it back i accidently spun it the wrong way so the cable was wrapped around the the bars hit the starter and she was pegged untwisted it and it was fine

the float needle valve may be stuck open letting excess fuel pour outta the carb, or you have a intake leak.

either way you should pull the carbs off, clean em out, inspect the guts, and check the intake runners for leaks.

elmascrambler, If memory serves me correct, isnt this a rotary intake valve feed with the carb mounted right on the side of the crankcase? If it is, pull the side cover off and look for a loose carb. As said before, could also be the cable or slide stuck.Bubba
