Could someone give me a short set of instructions on how to change the jetting on my 03 Sportsman 500 HO? How long does it take? I need to rejet for high altitude for elk hunting in the Colorado Rockies. I have the jet and am waiting on a parts manual to arrive, but I would like to go ahead and change the jet now. Any response appreciated.

 

Remove air box, then disconnect all lines to the carburator, except the throttle on the right. Loosen the clamp holding the carb to the intake, then carefully ease it back and out so it will be more accessible. At this point, the carb should be connected only by the throttle. Turn the card so you can remove the hex plug at the bottom, and you'll see a brass main jet. Unscrew it, replace with a smaller jet, then replace the hex plug. Remount carb to intake, then reconnect all lines, replace air box and filter, go hunting.
