what do you think?? i currently ride a honda 400ex, however being 6"7" tall i feel pretty cramped and i have a tough time riding hard thru the trails, i fit pretty good on a scrambler 500, do you think it would be a good switch for me?

It will fit you alot better than the 400 does. A much better ride, more clearance and power. But will you be happy with the automatic trans?

the scrambler 500 4x4 is awsome on tuff trails. the auto trans is great in the tight stuff. with the 4x4, i can go through just about anything . hills, mud, sand are nothing. i would not switch my scrammy for anything else, except maybe a scrambler 700!!! (hehehe)

Hiya Snappytom,
Well I'm 44 and been riding for 30 years also and I gotta admit I like the auto tranny. The Scrammy is a good machine in my opinion, the 4 wheel drive comes in handy and if your anything like me you'll appreciate the ride and the ability to adjust the ride for when your feeling twenty again. Doesn't snap your head back or anything like that but it can still be a lot of fun. Once the motor loosens up the power improves noticably. Bit of a gas pig when compared to a Raptor but feels more like a machine than toy. IMO. Does have a lot more weight and front diffs always turning so that's why. Anyhow I'm pleased with my machine, couple of nit-picky little things that PO me, bolts coming loose, tie straps on the belt drive air intake instead of hose clamps, but they're easy fixes.

You will not be unhappy with the 500 scrambler. Its a beast,,,,,a very forgiving beast

It is a great bike,,,,for what it is.

Got one for the girlfriend,,,,and I cant seem to stay off of it. (im 6'2", 260)

Just keep in mind,,,,the scrambler has the same problem you do. 'Size' It will tend to push thru a turn if you go too fast, or reach out and grab that root on the side of the trail......It is a wide machine,,,,which is good for what you need.

Please dont try to keep up with the sport bikes,,,just push them thru the mud when they get stuck.

The 4x4 system that the scrambler uses is neat as well,,,,saves wear and tear,,,on the 4x4 parts.

Also,,,I would get a newer one,,,the old one had some problems,,,as did all polaris bikes.

Hey Evan,,,,why is your front diffs 'always' turning?

Front drive shaft, prop shafts and gearcasing, these always turn as the engage mechanism is in the front hubs.

I assume you mean when the 4wd is 'switched' to 'on'

when it is 'off ' your hubs should be disengaged making steering easier

"I assume you mean when the 4wd is 'switched' to 'on'

When the 4wd is switched off your front drive shaft, prop shafts and gear case still turn, the locking mechanism for the 4wd is in the front hub of the front wheel. When you turn the 4wd switch on the "fingers" in the hub are pulled into the slots that lock the front wheels and give you 4wd. Thus giving you a true 4wd.
