looks like his 38mm keihen isn't opening all the way. leaving about 1/4 throttle. another thing is the belts. he's got a new one on and the old one is actually pretty new. the newest one is on and his holeshot is definetaly better. whats up with the belts. do they start wearing and cause this or is it because he holds the brakes and gives it gas to get good launch.

Thanks for the Predator info atc86r! The Predator seems like an awesome quad.

Gary, I want to know where I can get some ported muffler bearings too. You know, since the 2-strokes rely on exhaust so much. ATC, Your buddy is probably experiencing one of the worst downfalls of racing a Polaris. Holding the brake and launching hard does 2 things. First it will start cooking the outside of the belt. When it starts getting a charred appearance, it will not slip anymore and cause it to grab for a bit before slipping. Then it doesnt want to come out of the hole. The second is that he has worn a substantial groove at the bottom of the primary sheaves where the belt engages. This causes the belt to not want to start climbing immediately and lose ET in a race. If it feels like the machine's rpms raises over the running rpm for a split second when you hammer the throttle then comes back down while it shifts out (overshift), then most likely this is the problem. If his bike is more than a couple of years old, it probably needs a clutch for sure. One of the biggest things besides brake torquing that helps to cook the belt is alignment of the clutches. Make sure that the engine (or trans) is not moving excessively under a load. Does he have the hard mounts or a torque strap? When the motor pulls back under hard acceleration, you lose the necessary alignment of the clutches which can cook the belt, and you lose belt deflection which is very important as well. I hope this might help,Bubba
